MSIG insures large multinational and domestic companies, and offers comprehensive global insurance programs.  Our US subsidiary, Mitsui Sumitomo Marine Management (MSMM), currently has an opportunity available for an Insurance Filings and Actuarial Coordinator (Underwriting Compliance) in our Warren, NJ office.

Summary:  Responsible for the timely oversight and coordination of insurance product rate/rule/form filing initiatives.  This position is also responsible for coordination and oversight for National Underwriting Management of the State Filings Vendor.  Ensures that all insurance product upgrades are coordinated with State Filings Vendor as well as internal Business Units including IT and the Zone offices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Oversee and coordinate with the State Filings Vendor to maintain insurance products for MSMM according to the approved procedure. This involves the monitoring of the State Filings Vendor’s status applications, which track changes to rates, rules, forms and Loss Cost Multipliers for all lines of business for all underwriting companies. These changes can be generated by any applicable rating bureau, or internally by Product Development and/or National Underwriting.
  • Oversee and coordinate filing activity with the State Filings Vendor to ensure MSMM compliance for any regulatory changes implemented by state agencies.
  • Facilitate updates to the Company’s State Filings Manuals as maintained by the State Filing Vendor. 
  • Coordinate and facilitate the communication between various business units (such as IT, National Underwriting, National Operations and Zone Offices) and the State Filing Vendor regarding product changes and/or regulatory changes. 
  • Monitor and provide periodic (TBD) evaluation of State Filing Vendor to National Underwriting Management.
  • Coordinate workload for the State Filings Vendor for National Underwriting according to department guidelines.  Ensure that target completion dates are established for any and all requested tasks and provide status and completion dates for those tasks.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) is preferred. High School Diploma or GED is required.  Three (3) years + Property/Casualty-related multi-line underwriting experience, including knowledge of rating required.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as bureau circulars, underwriting files, regulations and procedure manuals.   Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations.

Reasoning Ability                                                           

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret business needs regarding issuance of all policy administration components including underwriting, policy issuance and billing and to clearly articulate those needs to IT professionals for implementation. 

Computer Skills                           

Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
