MSIG insures large multinational and domestic companies, and offers comprehensive global insurance programs.  Our US subsidiary, Mitsui Sumitomo Marine Management (MSMM), currently has an opportunity available for a Junior Underwriter in our Dallas/Addison office.

Summary:  Produce, underwrite and service profitable new and renewal Inland Marine business in the Central/Gulf region in accordance with all department guidelines.  Promote a positive image of MSIG in the marketplace. Develop agency relationships and build a profitable book of business.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Produces, selects and underwrites new and renewal Inland Marine risks within delegated underwriting authority, including construction, transportation or other classes of Inland Marine as authorized.
  • Applies appropriate account selection, coverage and pricing techniques according to department guidelines.
  • Monitors underwriting results, premium and loss trends within assigned book of business.
  • Establishes and executes effective and efficient producer and client visits (in conjunction with other internal units and Marketing Representatives as necessary) in order to maintain existing accounts and develop new business.
  • Coordinate with inter-company departments as well as producers, insureds and Marketing Representatives to ensure appropriate high level account management standards are maintained.
  • Enhances underwriting expertise in the area of Inland Marine including completing appropriate industry training.

Education and/or Experience                                                  

 

      Diploma/Degree:   High school diploma or equivalent required, but Bachelor’s degree or equivalent business experience preferred.

Experience:

  • 0 to 5+ years of inland marine underwriting experience.
  • Candidates with prior specialty property experience considered.
  • Prior operational experience in industry segments of construction, oil & gas and transportation or logistics a plus.

  • Excellent relationship building skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong work ethic, critical thinking and organizational skills
  • Effective computer and software skills, including Microsoft products Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to travel as required within the Central and Gulf regions of the United States for production and producer management activities.
