MSIG insures large multinational and domestic companies, and offers comprehensive global insurance programs.  Our US subsidiary, Mitsui Sumitomo Marine Management (MSMM), currently has an opportunity available for a Bureau Reporting Analyst in our Warren, NJ office.

Job Summary

Under limited supervision, performs statistical planning activities including analysis and correction of ISO bureau edits, timely reporting of ISO data submissions, communication of error conditions back to the field for correction of source document, researching and answering inquiries from rating personnel regarding statistical entry requirements, preparing updates to the Instruction Manuals, reviewing bureau correspondence communicating statistical changes and writing systems specifications to update the computer system, performing WINS table maintenance, providing training on manual entry requirements, performing testing of premium and loss systems of statistical requirements and performing periodic Data Quality reviews.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Perform the functions necessary to produce MSMM’s ISO quarterly CSP and CSP+ statistical submissions, including running applications to produce submission files, balancing the premium and loss amounts to control totals, reviewing the output, sending the data to ISO via the internet, reviewing and coordinating with vendor to correct the edit output processed through ISO’s edit package until the submissions are accepted by ISO, and maintenance of PC based Control Logs to assure ISO reporting requirements are met.                                                                                                                                                       
  • Perform systems specifications and WINS table maintenance including review of bureau correspondence, preparation of systems specifications and follow up on progress of request.
  • Perform system testing activities related to computer generation of statistical data including review of questionable system generated data, coordination with ISD to supply test cases, analysis of reasons for errors and communication of problems and their resolution to system vendors and/or IT.
  • Provide support to production staff on statistical requirements for manual entry through being   on call for questions, when requested, formal training.
  • Produce and maintain Manual – WINS Premium Entry Instruction documentation
  • Perform Data quality reviews of Premium and Loss statistics.

     There are no supervisory responsibilities with this position.

Education and/or Experience                                                    

  • Diploma/Degree:  
    • High school diploma or equivalent required, but Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience:
    • (7 to 10 years of relevant experience)
  • Thorough understanding of insurance rating concepts for all lines of business.
  • Strong background in statistical reporting for Commercial Lines (ISO, SAA, NCCI and independent work comp bureaus).
  • Familiarity with Personal Lines reporting requirements is also helpful.
  • Must understand how premium and loss data is entered into computer system and be able to perform entry for testing purposes.
  • Must understand the flow of data to the “back end” bureau reporting systems.
  • Analytical ability is a must in order to identify and correct system problems impacting the generation of statistics. 
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in order to interface with internal and external groups (at all levels) on statistical issues. 
  • Effective in working in an automated environment. 
  • Equipment used on a regular basis includes personal computer for entry into premium and loss systems, internet applications for reporting and software packages such as an SQL tool, and those contained in Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to handle multiple priorities.
