MSIG insures large multinational and domestic companies, and offers comprehensive global insurance programs.  Our US subsidiary, Mitsui Sumitomo Marine Management (MSMM), currently has an opportunity available for an Underwriting Technical Assistant (Property) in our Warren, NJ office.

PURPOSE SUMMARY: Assist manager with MSMM’s property book of business through collection, analysis, administration and quality control of the company’s property data for first party lines of business. Support the analysis and quality control efforts for property aggregations and PML calculations. Work with manager for data analysis related to portfolio level profitability and trend indications.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Assist management with treaty placement by collecting and analyzing exposures and loss information to insure most efficient pricing available in the current reinsurance market.
  • Catastrophe Modeling: Identify and track aggregate catastrophic exposures in order to assist in the prevention of undue loss potential to the policy holder surplus of the company.
  • Underwriting Training: Assist in the creation, delivery or coordination of internal or external training programs related to MSMM’s Catastrophe Management.
  • Maintain and control quality of property catastrophe data by monthly/quarterly/annual file reviews and completion of RMS checklists.  
     
  • Track and monitor underwriting data by working with IT and Underwriting Management to develop and provide analysis on the data necessary to manage MSMM’s property portfolio. 
  • Provide support to field underwriters in the use and problem resolution in areas of catastrophe modeling (RMS).
  • Assist Manager in quarterly PML and portfolio reviews.
  • Work with MSMM’s catastrophe modeling vendor (RMS), underwriting, reinsurance team and management to develop and implement “best practices” for ensuring data quality across the property portfolio.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) preferred; Strong Microsoft skills including Excel, Word & PowerPoint. Prior RMS or CAT management experience a plus.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

CPCU or insurance related courses helpful.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
