A well-established specialty P&C carrier is hiring a Senior Claims Examiner to manage complex claims for financial institution clients: fidelity bonds, fiduciary liability, credit unions, and related financial institution coverage. This is not a generalist PL seat. The team handles FI-specific exposure, not standard E&O work for architects, lawyers, or other traditional professional lines. This role owns the full claims lifecycle from investigation through resolution.
Key Responsibilities
Claims Oversight & Strategy
- Manage end-to-end handling of complex financial institution claims: investigation, coverage analysis, reserving, litigation management, resolution
- Evaluate and assign new claims based on complexity, jurisdiction, and expertise
- Maintain a proactive diary system to track milestones and service standards
- Drive timely, strategic decision-making aligned with business and client goals
Technical Expertise
- Hands-on claims management for fidelity bond, fiduciary, and financial institution matters, including D&O and EPL exposure tied to this space
- Direct litigation strategy alongside defense counsel, including mediations, settlement conferences, and trials
- Analyze coverage issues, liability exposures, and damages specific to financial institution risk
Client & Broker Engagement
- Serve as primary claims liaison for key financial institution accounts and specialty programs
- Lead and participate in claim review meetings, presenting trend insights to stakeholders
- Build relationships with brokers, insureds, and risk managers in the FI space
Internal Collaboration
- Partner with Underwriting, Risk Management, and Customer Service
- Provide claims trend insight to inform underwriting strategy and product development
Process & Compliance
- Drive continuous improvement in claims workflows
- Ensure compliance with internal claim handling guidelines, regulatory requirements, and NAIC guidance
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or designation (CPCU, AIC, JD) preferred. JD not mandatory, but most of the current team holds one
- 5+ years handling complex Professional Liability claims, with direct financial institution experience required (fidelity bonds, fiduciary, credit unions)
- Strong policy interpretation, coverage analysis, and litigation management skills
- Experience managing large claims with significant financial exposure, start to finish
- Experience managing defense counsel directly
Compensation: $150K base, plus discretionary incentive bonus and benefits
