Genesee Patrons is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Claims Assistant to join our Claims Department. This position will provide support throughout the claims process and work closely with our claims team, policyholders, independent agents, contractors, adjusters, and other claim-related service providers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist the Claims Department with the handling and administration of property and casualty claims.
- Receive and process new claim reports and ensure claims are established accurately and promptly.
- Communicate professionally with policyholders, independent agents, adjusters, contractors, and other claim-related service providers.
- Provide responsive and courteous customer service to policyholders and agents throughout the claims process.
- Assist with gathering documentation, photographs, estimates, invoices, reports, and other information necessary for claim investigation and evaluation.
- Review claim files for required documentation and assist in obtaining missing information.
- Maintain accurate, organized, and timely electronic claim files.
- Prepare correspondence and other claim-related documentation.
- Assist claims staff with scheduling inspections, assignments, follow-ups, and other claim activities.
- Monitor outstanding items and assist with timely follow-up to keep claims progressing toward resolution.
- Process claim-related payments and documentation in accordance with company procedures.
- Work closely with independent adjusters, contractors, restoration companies, attorneys, appraisers, and other service providers as necessary.
- Assist with maintaining accurate claim records, reports, and departmental documentation.
- Provide administrative and operational support to claims adjusters and Claims Department management.
- Develop an understanding of insurance policies, coverage, claims practices, and applicable New York State insurance requirements.
- Participate in continuing education and professional development opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with Underwriting, Accounting, and other departments throughout the company.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Minimum of an Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- Prior insurance, claims, customer service, administrative, or related professional experience preferred but not required.
- Property and casualty insurance experience is a plus.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate professionally and compassionately with policyholders following a loss.
- Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
- Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn insurance-specific claims and policy administration systems.
- Ability and willingness to learn insurance policy language, claims procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Professional insurance designations or an interest in pursuing industry education and designations are a plus.
Compensation
The anticipated salary range for this position is $48,000 – $68,000 annually.
Actual compensation will be determined based on the successful candidate's education, experience, qualifications, insurance industry knowledge, and other job-related factors.
