Our Home Office Technical and Operations Claim Managers will be split time between working from a home office location and our headquarters in McMinnville, Oregon. This staff position will oversee a variety of claim initiatives and procedures involving Casualty/Auto claim handling. There may be other claim disciplines involved. They will monitor performance, conduct audits, develop and coordinate training and manage vendor relationships. A strong technical background in either Personal or Commercial lines Casualty/Auto claim handling is preferred. 

As part of our Oregon Mutual Insurance Management Team, you will be empowered to make decisions to help and protect our policyholders and others involved in claims. Qualified candidates must live in one of our four operating states: Oregon, Washington, California, Idaho.

Required Skills: 

  • Strong Casualty/Auto claims technical background with experience resolving claims with varying degrees of complexity and severity across personal and commercial lines of business.  Litigation experience preferred
  • A minimum of five years Casualty/Auto claims experience is required
  • Claims Management experience preferred
  • Understanding of general claim procedures and initiatives
  • Can review and interpret variety of policy language
  • Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Strong data analytical skills and ability to work in various computer systems
  • Organizational and multi-tasking abilities 
  • Display curiosity and eagerness to drive improvement
  • Effectively collaborate with internal and external business partners to drive performance and reach common goals

 Essential Functions:  

  • Reports to Division Manager of Casualty/Auto Claims.
  • Review complex and large loss claim reports for authority and maintain oversight of the claim, working with field staff to resolution.
  • Act as Casualty/Auto technical expert for internal business partners and provide insight to help improve processes, systems, product offerings, underwriting risks, and interpret policy.
  • Maintains a focus on key areas of complex and large loss claim handling including but not limited to accuracy of financial payments, coverage analysis, investigation, timely reserving, litigation action planning, subrogation efforts, and compliance. 
  • Provide technical or coverage guidance, conferring with legal counsel, utilizing resources as needed, to assist field staff on course of action.
  • Monitor adjusting practices to ensure adherence to corporate claim philosophies, state regulations, and claims handling guidelines.
  • Monitor key performance indicators, performance data reports, reserves, and internal controls of the department, making recommendations as appropriate.
  • Contributes to the development and enhancement of claims training and on-going development of claim handlers. Identifies trends and delivers occasional training to staff.
  • Manage special projects and assigned vendors as directed.
  • Assists Division Manager with implementation of updated processes and technology that supports the goals of the department.
  • Conduct audits and various internal quality control functions with a focus on accuracy, compliance, service, or expense management.
  • Occasional travel (10%) for management meetings or within field territories. 
  • Other operational duties as assigned.
