The City of Torrance seeks a Workers’ Compensation Manager to join our team!

The Finance Department
The Finance Department, is a dynamic organization whose mission is to protect the City’s assets while providing and supporting the Torrance community with sound financial advice in a timely, cost effective and professional manner. Managing the department’s $6.0 million budget and day to day operations is skillfully executed by 41 staff members. The Finance Director assists the City Manager in the operation and capital improvement budgets, serves as advisor to the Land Management Team and Investment Committee, presents to the City Council an annual audited statement of the City’s financial condition prepared in accordance with governmental reporting standards promulgated by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).

The Position
Under general direction, the Workers’ Compensation Manager plans, organizes and directs the administration of the Workers’ Compensation program providing continuing control, supervision and management of employee injury and illness cases; and performs related work as required. This is an at-will position. 

  

QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Education and Experience
Any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge and abilities required is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in the administration of Workers’ Compensation claims; and Bachelor’s degree in Public or Business Administration, Human Resources Management or a related field.  Directly related work experience may be substituted for the required education.
 
Public sector and/or self-insured employer workers’ compensation claims experience and supervisory experience are desirable.

License or Certificate:
Possession of a State of California Self-Insurance Plans Administrator Certificate is required.

Must possess and maintain designation as a lost time Claims Adjuster with the State of California and be current on mandated educational hours.
