As a Liberty Mutual Insurance Assistant Actuary, you'll use your analytical talents to resolve thought-provoking business problems and bring value to our customers. Global Risk Solutions Actuarial Reserving Support is seeking an Actuary to produce high quality Reserving analyses in support of Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM) SBU reserves. The role will include exposure to all lines of business across the LSM SBU and its balance sheet. Primary accountabilities are for the execution of Actuarial reserve studies and the development of risk-management tools, so that Senior Management can take accelerated action, and so that our external partners can have confidence in the strength of our balance sheet. The successful candidate will possess strong analytical and communication skills, as well as a demonstrated ability to execute thoroughly in a collaborative environment. The candidate will also be expected to produce sensitivity analyses that provide insights into reasonable ranges around a reserve point estimate.


        Execute 1st and 2nd independent reserve opinions as assigned

        Partner with SBUs (Actuarial, Claims, Underwriting) to understand impacts of initiatives and book of business changes, and incorporate into ongoing reserve analyses

        Clearly communicate results and methods to GRS H.O. and SBU management

        Develop effective tools for monitoring internal and external indications

        Build and implement process improvement initiatives

        Collaborate with other teams within GRS Actuarial Support to leverage their work and gain consistency in approach

  • Bachelor's degree required; Masters Degree preferred.
  • Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) or in Society of Actuaries (FSA) designation preferred or comparable education/designation with relevant experience.
  • Attaining Associateship alone is not a sufficient criterion to operate at this level, especially if exams have been passed very rapidly.
  • Minimum 5-7 years relevant experience required;
  • Sound knowledge of actuarial techniques and standards, as well as other business operations including financial, underwriting, legal, statistics, claims, sales, etc.
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships and interact effectively with others within and outside the organization.
  • Ability to motivate and mentor peers and motivate and train subordinates;
  • Advanced computing skills (MS Office Excel, SAS, etc.); Ability to build complex models.
