Responsible for establishing and providing leadership to the technology strategy and technology roadmaps for the market portfolio or group of product lines. Drives change that moves technology and the business forward - managing/solving the most complex problems that impact the management and direction of the business. Works closely with Solutions Architects and the business on engineering choices and how they align to enterprise well-architected framework. Contributes to and maintains the enterprise methodologies and techniques, including standards and guidelines for enterprise wide use in technical management and systems of process development. Provides technical management and architectural solutions to large, strategic, highly complex system and application portfolios involving multiple platforms, distributed processing, business applications and web-based applications. Responsible for the technical management of entire application portfolios within a market or domain. Uses professional concepts in developing resolution to critical issues and broad design matters. Recognized as an architecture thought leader within a business or function who influences decisions made by senior leadership and advances the craft of architecture within our organization. Decisions influenced often affect a matrixed environment.


  • Establishes and leads the technology strategy and technology roadmaps that enable the business, usually for a specific market portfolio.
  • Provides consultation, collaborates and influences senior leaders and all levels of both business and technology staff regarding all areas of architecture, including policies, standards, strategies, and governance. Provides oversight at the market portfolio level influencing decision-making and prioritizing the business and architecture backlog for the aligned product and engineering functions.
  • Drive education of the Liberty Mutual Well Architected Framework and Enterprise Architecture Playbook Strategies across aligned Market
  • Leads portfolio management, strategy and change large scale composite initiatives influencing the way business is done, including technology and architecture. Develops and implements technical architecture for most strategic and complex market portfolios.
  • Influences and partners with the market leadership teams to align the technical design and strategy with the product roadmap.
  • Connects Business and Solution architecture with emerging technology to ensure sound roadmaps which deliver business value.
  • Responsible for prototyping complex, cross platform business solutions to validate newer technologies. Reviews and ensures major architectural designs are consistent, maintainable, flexible and cost-effective solutions. Participates with application and infrastructure design architects to provide guidance for development and releases.
  • Maintains collaborative and strategic partnerships between customers, vendors, business partners, and technology teams.
  • Serves as enterprise resource to advance architecture/engineering capabilities that enable the business. 1
  • Proactively contributes to technical initiatives to create and share architecture/engineering practices across the wider organization. Acknowledged as expert in field by colleagues and customers. 1


  • Advanced knowledge of agile development methodologies as typically acquired through a Bachelor`s or Master`s degree in technical or business discipline or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 12-15 years of engineering, programming, or architecture experience with at least 10 years of architecture experience in applications development in a complex, multi-platform distributed environment
  • ¬†Extensive knowledge of all product and system components of technical architecture
  • In-depth knowledge of business operations, objectives and strategies; in-depth understanding of global business and technology trends and the financial services industry
  • Exposure to layered solutions and designs, diverse technical configurations, multiple technologies and processing environments
  • Thorough knowledge of all components of holistic enterprise architecture
  • Extensive knowledge of all product and system components of technical architecture
  • In-depth knowledge of business operations, objectives and strategies; in-depth understanding of global business and technology trends and the financial services industry
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and build expertise in diverse and emerging technologies and new architectural concepts and principles
  • Strong influencing and consensus building skills, and the adaptability to respond to change quickly
  • Strong communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with all levels of the organization with diverse backgrounds
  • Proven experience with agile practices and expectations¬†Strong desire to drive change, and ability to adapt to change quickly
  • Strong consulting skills (relevant/technical); recognized as a thought leader within the company
  • Ability to balance the long-term "big picture" and short-term implications of decisions
  • Experience leveraging offshore development resources
