Job Description

Reporting to the VP of Operations. This role will focus on the management and day to day supervision of the underwriting team.

Working closely with the ATA sales, enrollment, claims, customer service, medical management and leadership teams along with stop loss carriers and our general agents/brokers to drive profitable underwriting results.  This role will be responsible for operational oversight and accountability of the underwriting department.  This includes the management of workflows, production and quality for each individual underwriter while adhering to internal controls to ensure the complete, accurate and timely underwriting of cases.    

Candidate:

• 10+ years of underwriting experience, preferably in health insurance focused on self-funded, stop loss or small group
• Prior management/leadership/supervision of an underwriting team
• Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
• Well-developed analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills
• Positive attitude and desire to build
• Understanding of AI underwriting

Goals: 

• Enhance systems, processes and procedures to reduce turn-around times and produce profitable underwriting results
• Work with leadership to ensure the department can meet production demands throughout the year and prepare department for both long- and short-term growth
• Provide guidance on plan changes and the financial outcomes associated with the changes
• Build and develop a best-in-class UW department
