The Claims department at IAT Insurance Group has an immediate opening for a General Adjuster that can be in one of the following locations:

  • New York/New Jersey area
  • Houston, Texas
  • Remote – in areas noted above

The General Adjuster is responsible for serving our clients and investigating personal and commercial property claims, evaluating damages, determining coverage, setting accurate loss cost estimates. This role will also handle the client's exposures and losses, manage consultants, and achieve a prompt, fair and equitable settlement according to fair claims handling requirements. The candidate will be expected to negotiate settlement of claims with varying complexity and perils.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts a prompt, thorough and fair field investigation by obtaining relevant facts to determine coverage, origin, and extent of loss. Reviews and utilizes financial statements to adjust time element claims
  • Engages and manages consultants and vendors work and budgets to ensure they are reasonable and necessary
  • Establishes, maintains and reports timely, accurate loss cost estimates and reserves
  • Handles highly complex and severe exposure claims based on Claim Best practices
  • Engage / marketing with local external partners including agents, brokers
  • Technical resource for the property team to provide training, mentoring
  • Travel: 25%
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Must have:

  • Bachelors' degree with 8 years of property claims adjusting or examining experience or equivalent
  • Equivalent is defined as 12+ years of relevant field property claims experience
  • Ability to perform physical inspections, including carrying a ladder and inspections of roofs or small confined spaces with damage
  • Ability to draft appropriate and professional correspondence
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office, including Word & Excel
  • Ability to obtain licensure as required by respective state(s)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to organize, multi-task and prioritize work
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Authorized to work in the United States and must not require VISA sponsorship, now, or in the future

Preferred to have:

  • Estimating experience
  • Construction, mitigation, restoration or remodeling knowledge and experience is also preferred
  • CPCU and other insurance related studies are beneficial
