POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Technical Business Analyst is an integral member of the Product Configuration team and is responsible for leading businesses in implementing technology solutions in a cost-effective manner by determining the requirements of a project or program, leading or participating in the solutioning and design of requirements implementation and communicating results to / obtaining signoff from stakeholders. 

 

The Technical Business Analyst differs from a traditional business analyst in that they not only must possess expert-level traditional business analyst skills, but are also expected to wield proficiency in two or more technical disciplines within data management and/or application development.  

 

The Technical business analysts may be assigned by project or technology platform and are expected to participate in every stage of the software development and/or implementation lifecycle, from analysis and design through testing, release, and maintenance while adhering to current Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes.

 

Technical business analysts work closely with various customers including their immediate project teams, business unit representatives and other technical staff members, often facilitating and coordinating the communication among all parties, including vendors. You will also be responsible for mentoring of junior colleagues.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

LEADERSHIP: Provide Cross-Functional, Matrixed Leadership to Technology Initiatives

 

  • Serve as liaison between the business community and technical teams
  • Influences and negotiates with parties as appropriate to achieve desired results
  • Escalates when necessary
  • Delegates tasks to team members as appropriate with clear deliverables and deadlines
  • Follows up on progress of delegated items
  • Works closely with technology, project, and business managers to ensure timely execution of delivery milestones
  • Provides key inputs for project/program governance reporting working closely with product and project managers

DESIGN: Participates in Logical and/or Physical Design of Systems

 

  • Ensures the team is balancing advocacy for business stakeholder needs against robust, scalable, and secure technical design
  • Organizes and participates in the design of systems with architects, software developers, engineers, business experts, and other stakeholders including interface design and specifications, data modeling, and process flows
  • Proactively identifies system design issues and conflicts, and helps define and implement solutions

ANALYSIS: Gathering, Translating, and Documenting Business Requirements

 

  • Elicits and documents business and technical requirements that drive key business components through a project or platform enhancement lifecycle
  • Utilizes meetings, interviews, workshops, surveys, site visits, data analysis, modeling tools, business scenarios using process analysis and task / workflow analysis
  • Memorializes business requirements in the form of stories or design specifications according to the appropriate methodology using JIRA & Confluence

 

DEVELOPMENT:  Performing product configuration and development in accordance with SDLC.

  • Configures the Duck Creek Policy and Billing administration systems Builds Custom Business Objects (CBOs) using object-oriented programming language. Assists with development efforts on other core systems withing the organization.

TESTING and TRAINING: Ensure Quality Technology Deliverables

 

  • Develops contextual test plans, cases, and scripts in support of functional, performance, system integration, regression, or user acceptance testing
  • Documents test results and logs defects / observations into JIRA
  • Fully executes Quality Assurance (QA) function or collaborates with larger QA team as required, dependent on size/scope of change and resource availability
  • Document’s training material as required in support of a project or system
  • Contributor to business or technical resources being trained on system functionality

PRODUCTION SUPPORT: Debug and Triage Systems Utilizing Technical Skills

 

  • Responds to business and technical issues by way of properly understanding the issue and business impact (tools to review, analyze, and troubleshoot production or lower applications through debugging and interrogation of interfaces, databases, system logs, and web services)
  • Primary resource that supports escalated tickets generated from the service desk

 

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or equivalent work experience
  • Five or more years in Information Technology and P&C Insurance
  • Five or more years working on moderate-to-complex projects or systems
  • Agile/Lean methodologies, with Waterfall experience preferred
  • Requirements gathering and analysis
  • Conversion of business and functional requirements to use cases, epics, and stories with acceptance criteria
  • System and system integration design based on requirements
  • Testing stages through the SDLC and capability to write and execute test plans and cases
  • Quantification of estimates and resource requirements
  • Engagement of developers and business partners to achieve target outcomes
  • Risk assessment, problem resolution, negotiation, and influencing skills
  • Strong attention to detail with an analytical mind and outstanding problem-solving skills plus experience collaborating across multiple teams/vendors Must possess the ability to troubleshoot and apply logic to solve business problems with minimal supervision and a willingness to dig into the details of specific projects to ensure the appropriate approach and best use of company resources. Must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and assignments. Must have excellent computer skills with proficiently using MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and be able to perform basic MS SQL queries Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills Must have excellent presentation skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Data modeling concepts and creation/interpretation of entity-relationship diagrams
  • Authoring of structured query language (SQL)
  • Authoring of one object-oriented programming (or scripting) language
  • Interpretation of system log files and debugging software
  • Web service concepts with ability to test services and interpret responses
  • Leadership
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to explain technology in business terms
