Senior Underwriting Manager

About the Role

MGA arm of an established carrier based overseas run by insurance industry veterans seeks Underwriting professional in US as they prepare to launch in the states. Licensed in 9 states currently with plan to be licensed in all 50 states. Relationship fronting carrier in place. This MGA will be writing BOP, small to medium sized commercial business accounts.

The Underwriting professional comes in on the ground floor and will be a key contributor to the development of this organization. They seek someone whose expertise is on commercial accounts. The Senior Underwriter/Chief Underwriter is responsible for the management of commercial lines business, including underwriting and product functions. As a pivotal member of the enterprise leadership team, the selected individual will develop and oversee the execution of the company’s short- and long-term underwriting and business strategies.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Collaborate with other senior leaders to achieve business goals
• Provide strategic insights and fresh solutions driving growth within the commercial line of business
• Hire, lead, and direct underwriting staff with an emphasis on coaching, learning and development, accountability, talent management, and succession planning
• Build a creative and collaborative atmosphere that involves problem-solving to overcome obstacles and challenges

Skills & Experience

• 10+ years of relevant technical small business underwriting and management experience
• Underwriting expertise within workers’ compensation, auto, property, and general liability accounts with premium sizes up to 100K
• Demonstrated technical, strategic leadership, and management skills
• Strong distribution management skills and relationships
• Proven ability to grow a profitable book of business
• Experience implementing and maintaining a high-performance culture built on excellence, accountability, and trust
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in business

Compensation

$120,000 to $190,000 + performance based incentives
