PERSONAL LINES UNDERWRITER LEVEL 1

POSITION SUMMARY The Personal Lines Underwriter Level 1 processes Personal Lines new business applications, renewals and endorsements. Applies the Company’s underwriting guidelines and standards to the processing and decisions made. Must develop and maintain productive working relationships with Producers. These responsibilities must be accomplished while maintaining quality, productivity and time service standards. This position reports directly to the Personal Lines Supervisor and works with others within the company, as well as outside vendors, for the successful completion of projects. This is a full time position. Regular working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am- 4:00 pm, although, there is some flexibility in hours within the confines of the job requirements.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Reviews Personal Lines risks for adherence to underwriting guidelines. Exhibits strong understanding and consistent application of guidelines to risk reviewed. Efficiently researches and responds to producers and customers.

• Make recommendations the applicant can take to make the risk acceptable to the requested policy form. • Reviews reports received from other sources; such as, inspection reports and notices from the claim department

• Reviews claim files paying special attention to allegations of fraud or misrepresentation.

• Demonstrates and has the ability to maintain a thorough understanding of all Personal Lines Products

. • Ability to meet time service standards as defined. • Ability to provide constructive feedback about quality of producer’s submissions and identify concerns.

• Assists with resolving daily issues from Customer Service or other staff members. • Maintain strict confidentiality on all files and records

• Maintain positive interpersonal skills and abilities

 • Engage in cognitive and analytic abilities. • This position may be subject to occasional business related travel that includes driving. • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is required to reach with hands; and key frequently on a computer for long periods of time (4 or more hours per day).

SKILLS

• Must have strong organizational skills.

• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Must be able to establish priorities in work assignments and have the ability to multi task and work under pressure and deadlines.

• Must exercise good decision making and independent judgment.

• Must possess a working understanding of policy forms and their application.

• Must possess a working knowledge of the Personal Lines Underwriting Manual and Personal Lines Rating Manual.

• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. • This is a largely sedentary role requiring the use of standard office equipment such as a calculator, computer, laptop, cell phone, phone(s), photocopier, filing cabinet and fax machine. Most work is completed in a corporate office environment. Employees must be able to sit for long periods of time, and type

EXPERIENCE

• 3 years of Personal Lines Underwriting Experience required.

EDUCATION

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required.

• Insurance Education Certificates preferred

 • Louisiana Department of Insurance Property & Casualty License preferred
