Job Details
This position is responsible in supporting the Accounting Manager in meeting departmental goals and objectives and assisting with the development of workflows, policies, procedures, and internal controls within the assigned area. The Staff Accountant will also help maintain the general ledger, reconciling key balance sheet accounts and contribute to the month end close process.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To prepare timely and accurate bank reconciliations under the guidance of Accounting Manager.
- Create journal entries to record daily and/or monthly activity for entry to the general ledger.
- Participate in the month-end process including preparation of internal financial reports for management.
- Maintain and reconcile specific general ledger accounts and review general ledger accounts maintained by other accounting staff such as prepaids and investments.
- Assist in the development or updates of workflows and written procedures.
- Assist in completing and analyzing quarterly and annual statements along with various Statutory reporting requirements.
- Various AD hoc reports as needed.
- Performs general support activities to other accounting functions such as special projects or daily processing.
- Maintain, monitor, and support a shared general Corporate Accounting email.
- Performing various bank functions – stop / void of checks, wire transfers, ach payments, exceptions, positive pay, fraudulent claims.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Education in Accounting or a Business discipline. Proficient knowledge of accounting procedures including internal control and insurance regulations.
- Preferred but not required – Understand the concepts and terminology of insurance accounting.
- Strong interpersonal skills – need too effectively communicate with customers inside and outside of the organization
- Display proficiency in the use of SunGard Ledger package or related ledger software.
- Ability to work accurately with detail on a consistent basis.
- Must be able to handle multiple projects and adjust to shifting priorities.
- Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office with a focus on Excel, Word and a basic understanding of network functionality.
