Job Description Summary

Underwrite, price, and negotiate complex Select renewal business within delegated authority in a high-volume environment. Territory is based on assigned agency territory. Support key business objectives, account retention, and account growth. Virtually market to and develop relationships with agents and brokers.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Evaluate complex new, renewal, and endorsement activities to accept, modify, decline, and price accounts.
  • Responsible for individual risk pricing and retention within the context of overall book financial objectives.
  • Provide technical underwriting analysis and recommendations to other employees within Travelers Small Business Underwriting and Business Centers.
  • Ensure compliance with underwriting strategies and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide excellent customer service support to agents and Travelers Small Business and Underwriting Centers.
  • Engage with agents to negotiate and close individual transactions.
  • Understand and effectively utilize competitive market data.
  • Provide technical expertise in the delivery of underwriting training supporting the needs of the local Business Center teams.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of underwriting experience.

Education, Work Experience, & Knowledge

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Three or more years of commercial underwriting experience.

Licensing or Certificates

  • Insurance designations (CPCU, INS).
  • Insurance Brokers License.

  • Strong knowledge of property and casualty products and marketplace.
  • Strong technical multi-line underwriting skills.
  • Quantitative reasoning, critical thinking skills.
  • Strong influence and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to assess impacts of individual decisions on financial results and objectives.
  • Strong relationship-building skills; ability to establish productive networks inside and outside of Travelers.
  • Strong verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and complete multiple tasks within a fast-paced work environment.
