Job Summary

The Service Engineer is responsible for researching, designing, building, testing, deploying, analyzing, administering, and maintaining environments and hardware and software technology components to meet current and future business needs. This includes monitoring and controlling the performance and status of technology components, and providing technology component support and problem resolution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the Allstate on-premise Microsoft Dynamics environment (new or existing hardware and software technology components or enhancements to existing components): research, analysis, selection, planning, engineering, and development.
  • Collaborates with other Service Engineers, IT Architects, vendors, and business clients to ensure components interact appropriately, production environments are developed and maintained, and other areas of impact are addressed and meet business functional and performance requirements.
  • Test, debug, and analyze performance, and document hardware and software technology components.
  • Implement hardware and software technology components by analyzing the current system environment. Perform MSD product customization and develop implementation and verification procedures to ensure successful installation of systems hardware/software.
  • Plan and manage all activities associated with support and administration of the hardware and software technology components of MSD.
  • Hardware and software technology component analysis, and evaluation on resource requirements necessary to maintain and/or expand service levels or tune hardware and software technology components for optimum performance.
  • Ensure that plans integrate effectively with other components accounting for compliance and security standards.
  • Resolve incidents, logging and communicating issues and resolutions. Review and approve major and significant changes.
  • Analyze and resolve complex incidents and problems and balance the workload against incident priorities. Ensure all related incidents and problems are appropriately resolved.
  • Provide input and technical guidance in project management, planning, task definition, estimating, reporting, scheduling, and workflow.
  • Analyze variances and drive improvements in the organization, standards, procedures, or methods.
  • Develop plans to meet required service levels; design data collection and reporting mechanisms for application/infrastructure health reporting.
  • Direct more junior engineers serving as Subject Matter Expert for MSD software, MSD infrastructure, integrations, and security requirements.
  • Review and validate accuracy of estimates.

Capable of efficiently making changes to the platform which may impact other organizational functions. Able to quickly and accurately discuss the impact of new technology, applications, and design criteria on the platform. Knowledgeable of the major business units which use the platform. Communicate with users and customers regarding various business functions and how they fit into the platform in an easily understood manner.

Software Product Knowledge Demonstrates a conceptual and practical understanding of the product and its applicability, as well as related products. Able to discuss the product, its usage, technology, platforms, and design criteria. Knowledgeable of the major users of the product and their needs and issues. Clearly and effectively communicates with users, customers, and management regarding various functional changes and enhancements related to the product.

Problem Solving Resolve incidents and problems quickly and easily. Anticipates problems before they occur or before they grow. Sets standards, procedures, and benchmarks to minimize potential problems. Shows ingenuity and imagination. Provides a feeling of confidence and integrity in dealing with critical problems and issues affecting clients and users. Informs others of benefits of new products and technological innovation which may improve their products and services.

Standards and Procedures Expertise in applying standards and procedures in challenging and complex situations. Often takes a role in establishing standards and procedures for the company. May participate in advanced technology or architecture areas which set standards for new products and processes as they are brought into the company.

Technology Industry Knowledge Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of the technology and its impact on the systems infrastructure of the company. Demonstrates acute knowledge of industry trends, emerging technologies, competitors' products and services, regulations and legislation impacting the company. Attends industry seminars and forums on a regular basis. Successfully investigates, evaluates, recommends, and implements new technology to meet requirements of state-of-the-art systems and projects.

Experience

College degree Computer Science, Business Administration, MIS or equivalent work experience

5 plus years of Microsoft Dynamics experience (MSD Infrastructure / Platform / MSD Development background)

Knowledge of other Microsoft stack technologies (such as SQL Server, .Net, ADFS, Exchange, C#, VB.net, javascript)

Certifications in MSD preferred
