Area of Responsibility

As part of Allstate Investments Below Investment Grade (BIG) activities, we invest in high yield bonds and broadly syndicated bank loans for several mandates including the Allstate general accounts and Collateralized Loan Obligations (CLOs) managed by our team under the AIMCO name.

Allstate Investments Public Asset Group is seeking an associate analyst to join our credit research team that supports our High Yield and Leveraged Loan/CLO portfolios.

The associate analyst role involves supporting our bank loan/CLO desk initiatives while simultaneously developing fundamental credit research skills, so the ability to multi-task and shift priorities on the fly will be critical. The desk role will involve communication with both internal clients and external clients while the research portion will involve supporting/developing under senior analysts in their underwriting efforts. The associate will work very closely with portfolio managers and analysts to deliver strong results to our clients.


    The Associate Analyst will be expected to focus on the following:
      Function as an integral part of the AIMCO deal team for our new issue CLOs including working with the senior structurer, liaising with internal/external constituents, fulfilling ad hock requests for portfolio and performance analysis from the desk, investors and structuring banksComplete ad hoc requests tied to our CLO platform including platform marketing materials and other client needsEnhance our quantitative tools through both maintaining our existing suite and building new capabilities that assist in continuing to advance our platformPrimary new issuance monitoring including communicating with sell side on deal details/book color, etc.

    • Secondary trading assistances to ensure smooth trade process between middle office and agent bankCollaborate with the broader analyst team through supporting financial modeling and all aspects of our underwriting process with the goal of developing fundamental credit skills Participate in analyst credit reviews to build knowledge of how we apply our credit process to construct and manage portfoliosContribute to the improvement of the overall investment process by continually exploring new ideas, processes and technologies that will benefit the group.

Challenges Within The First 12 Months

The most significant challenges for the Associate Analyst for the first 12 months include:

  • Learning the organization, culture and processes;
  • Establishing credibility with and earning the trust of the Portfolio Managers and the other asset teams within Allstate;
  • Developing sufficient knowledge of current portfolio holdings to preserve strong financial performance and seek attractive investment opportunities for the portfolios.

Professional Background


  • Two years of investment experience with a focus on leveraged credit

Skills Required

  • Solid understanding of the capital markets, quantitative methods, finance, economics and market cycles
  • Strong technical skills including Excel, Bloomberg, VBA, Python
  • Investment banking and/or credit training a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to be a reliable team player, to build trust and confidence through collaborations with a wide range of internal and external colleagues.
  • Ability to work efficiently, organize and prioritize assignments
  • Ability to work well with internal and external contacts

Educational Background

A bachelors degree in business, finance or related with strong academic performance
