Global Risk Solutions (GRS) Legal is seeking a highly-motivated, intellectually curious and collaborative attorney to support our North America Specialty organization.

 

The successful candidate will partner closely with the business, serving as legal counsel for North America Specialty, with a focus on Environmental and Specialty Casualty.

 

Day-to-day activities will include drafting and reviewing both admitted and non-admitted specialty insurance products, providing advice on time-sensitive transactions, analyzing and advising on issues related to regulatory compliance, counseling clients on non-litigated claims, negotiating commercial contracts with strategic partners, and coordinating across legal teams to solve complex problems.  

Expertise in insurance coverage and policy drafting is required and familiarity and experience with environmental insurance products and regulations is strongly preferred.  Common sense, great judgment, a broad perspective, willingness to learn and a good sense of humor will be key to the candidate's success.

  1. Provides high quality oral and written legal advice in a cost-effective manner to internal clients.
  2. Recommends practical courses of action to achieve client goals within the scope of what is legally permissible.
  3. Performs comprehensive research and analysis of reported cases, statutes, regulations and other legal materials regarding issues often characterized by an absence of clear legal precedent and renders clear and unambiguous legal opinions and advice as necessary
  4. Represents clients in complex legal and business transactions, with minimal supervision, where the facts, the law or the precedents involved can be interpreted differently or are in dispute.
  5. Representative duties include: Drafting and reviewing insurance policies and endorsements, including environmental and pollution products; Providing advice to specialty lines underwriters from quote to bind on time-sensitive transactions; Negotiation of commercial contracts; Managing outside counsel in connection pre-litigation and litigation matters; Representing the Company before regulatory and administrative bodies in connection with the filing and approval of insurance products; Providing advice regarding the implications of new laws substantially impacting the Company`s business; and  Anticipating legal issues and encouraging practices to prevent problems from arising.
  6. May assign, direct and review the work of law clerks and paralegals
  7. May prepare and conduct training sessions for internal clients.
  8. Maintains current knowledge of legal issues and developments in the law.

  • Completion of law school with a J.D. or L.L.B. degree and admission to the bar of at least one state required.
  • Expertise in insurance coverage and, preferably, a strong understanding of environmental insurance coverage, products and regulation
  • Maintains and demonstrates legal knowledge and technical skills appropriate to role.
  • Understands client's goals and objectives, builds trust and is responsive to client requests.
  • Knowledge, insight and understanding of business concepts, tools and processes that are needed for making sound decisions in the context of the company's business.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with all appropriate parties.
  • Holds themselves and others accountable while efficiently and enthusiastically pursuing projects to completion.
  • Efficiently manages a variety of assignments and competing priorities.
  • Exhibits creativity and rigorous analysis in legal role and shows desire to continuously learn and develop.
