Farm Underwriter

The Farm Underwriter  is responsible for communicating with the agency force, clients, and personnel on all farm lines. Achievement of assigned performance objectives through the underwriting of all business assigned to them.

Essential Duties:

• Communicates via telephone, written correspondence, email, fax and or appearances with the agency force, clients, and personnel with respects to farm underwriting. Responds to agency in matters such as exceptions, rejections, or cancellation of undesirable business.
• Performs underwriting duties, which includes:
• Underwrites new and renewal business, orders and reviews inspection reports and MVR’s Diary for any needed information with proper documentation
• Analyzes underwriting philosophy, products, pricing, positioning and recommends appropriate action

• Performs other duties as assigned or directed

Basic Qualifications

• High School Diploma and/or equivalent experience
• Minimum two (2) years' experience in related positions
• AFIS Designation preferred
• Must be able to analyze underwriting exposures with the ability to interpret an explain coverages
• Must make sound decisions within the underwriting authority
• Must exercise good communication skills and communicate effectively
• Must develop the underwriting necessary to properly evaluate and price risks
• Must have excellent written and verbal skills
• Must offer recommendations of coverage and rating alternatives 
• Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
• Must possess a positive and professional attitude and handle problems in a professional manner
