The Data Analytics and Engineering (DAE) organization of Liberty Mutual US Global Retail Marketing is expanding its architecture/innovation team. DAE Data Solutions Engineers design solution architectures and evaluate technologies for applicability that translate complex business requirements into usable computer systems. Data Solution Engineers work with data architects and data modelers to evaluate data products and design data integrations that meet organizational needs using conceptual and logical architecture models. This position is focused on the design and deployment of event-based integration, APIs, ETL and change data capture that will ingest data from across the US GRM applications and present it to the DAE datalake for incorporation within the data vault model.


An ideal Data Solution Engineer is an analytical and creative thinker who is not intimidated by roadblocks and challenges. They understand how to successfully evaluate problems and develop appropriate solutions. Data Solution Engineers perform well under pressure, possessing great focus while completing projects efficiently. They should be able to work well as part of a team, but also carry responsibility for their own work. Data Solution Engineers also need to be able to work on multiple projects at a time, with the ability to quickly understand and incorporate new technologies. Below are the skills and abilities that DAE will look for in a Data Solution Engineer.


What you will do:

  • Work with the Data Office, DAE, Architecture and Application Development teams to translate business needs into data integration, data movement, and data transformation solutions
  • Collaborate with development teams, peer solution engineers, and architects to ensure solution alignment with technical architecture, business plans, and long-term strategy
  • Collaborate with data modelers in applying Conceptual and Logical canonical models to integration payloads
  • Lead proof of concepts to compare products and evaluate new technologies
  • Manage the product standard lifecycle for all integration products
  • Architect and design integration patterns and best practices for use across multiple business domains to enable seamless integration of data movement from applications to datalake
  • Create and publish logical technical architecture diagrams documenting the reusable solutions for integration of applications and datalake
  • Lead modernization of legacy systems to drive supportability, integration with newer technologies, and improve developer productivity
  • Support Agile development squads with adoption of new integration technical solutions
  • Participate in Data Architecture procedures and policy management
  • Mentor and contribute to Data Management and Data Architecture standards and best practices

What you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or similar
  • Generally, a minimum of 10 years related experience
  • Experience translating integration, data transformation, and data movement requirements into architecture solutions that are based upon CDC, ETL, event messaging, API, streaming and other integration mechanisms (Snaplogic, Kafka, Apigee, Control-M)
  • 2+ years experience with change data capture solutions (Qlik)
  • 3+ years experience with experience with cloud-based Data Warehouse and Data Lake environments (Snowflake)
  • 5+ years experience in Software Development using SQL and/or Python
  • Prior experience with relevant AWS services (S3, Glacier, EC2)
  • Prior experience in converting relational data to/from semi-structured data (XML, JSON)
  • Must be able to work independently and collaboratively on large scale data projects
  • Strong leadership, communication, collaboration skills with a track record of taking solution ownership

Experience in these areas is a Plus:

  • Experience working with insurance industry standard canonical models (ACORD)
  • Experience with data modeling tools such as Erwin or ER/Studio
  • Experience with Teradata and/or Snowflake
  • Experience with MDM solutions
  • Demonstrated experience delivering data solutions via agile methodologies
  • Exposure to Business Intelligence tools (PowerBI, MicroStrategy)
  • Experience with insurance industry processes
  • Familiarity with Data Warehouse modeling techniques like Data Vault 2.0 and Dimensional
