General Description:

Responsible for assisting in developing, maintaining and leading Universal North America’s (UNA) property & casualty insurance compliance program designed to establish compliance standards and to monitor, detect and help prevent compliance deficiencies. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Supports development and implementation of an enterprise-wide compliance strategy for the UNA business by providing recommendations to strategic plans, preparing and completing actions plans and implementing compliance standards.

Enhances department and company training, awareness, monitoring and testing of compliance controls for the UNA business. 

Manages projects targeted toward working with colleagues in all departments to ensure products, systems, processes & procedures are in compliance with statutory/regulatory requirements.

Conducts meetings with Supervisors of the Department to discuss results, opportunities, recommendations identified and the action plan for the solution and/or process improvements.

Assists with the development and maintenance of a fully functioning compliance program.  

Manages development of written policies and procedures, manuals, and guidelines.

Leads and performs duties required to conduct specific compliance audits internally and with MGAs, TPAs and applicable vendors.  Mentors compliance team members through the audit process. 

Participates and manages investigations relating to alleged violation of state or federal regulations, as assigned and supervised by the Compliance Director.  

Takes part in developing the responses and working toward resolution of all market conduct and other non-financial regulatory examinations, audits and inquiries.

Contributes to designing action plans to address results of regulatory findings internally and with MGAs, TPA and other vendors.     

Facilitates working toward remediation and appropriate preventative action in response to violations of rules, regulations and policies.

Leads projects involving cross-functional endeavors with other corporate departments to enable the process of implementing new laws and regulations applicable to UNA are implemented within the business.

Manages and reports on the handling, responses and resolution of customer complaints.

Reports results on a regular basis (daily, weekly, biweekly, monthly, depends on the area).

Perform other duties as required.

Education and/or Experience: 

Bachelor’s Degree from accredited four year University.    

Minimum of four (4) years insurance compliance experience or eight (8) years of experience in an underwriting or claims role relating to risk evaluation and selection or claims handling of property and casualty insurance.

Experience and knowledge relating to property & casualty regulatory affairs, compliance, insurance pricing, risk selection, claims handling, business channels and business planning.    

Demonstrated ability to take a lead role in creating and maintaining a complex compliance program for a property & casualty insurance company on a multi-jurisdictional basis.

Demonstrated ability to take a lead role in creating, managing and maintaining a complex compliance auditing and monitoring program for a property & casualty insurance company on a multi-jurisdictional basis.

Must possess strong and articulate verbal and written communication skills.

Must possess strong analytical skills.

Strong ability to take the lead and initiate result oriented projects.   

Proficient in Microsoft XP, Word, Excel and Power Point.

Must be able to work under tight deadlines efficiently and with high quality.

Must be willing to work flexible schedules to support multiple time zones and travel as required.

Must possess a positive attitude and strong work ethic.

Licenses and / or Certifications: 

Insurance compliance certification may be required.
