This position provides the opportunity to learn and train their team on how to evaluate risks for Workers’ Compensation, Professional Liability (E&O) Businessowners’, Commercial Auto, and Umbrella policies for small businesses. This is a great opportunity in the commercial insurance industry servicing commercial insurance policies and building a successful operations team. The Operations Team Lead will supervise staff and oversee the day to day operations of an underwriting unit, manage service level objectives and ensure that underwriters operate within their letters of authority. Duties to include:

  • Supervising staff to include production, quality, and training for both new and existing staff
  • Assist underwriters in the operations team with managing their duties to accelerate growth and maintain underwriting discipline
  • Advocate compliance with insurance laws, rules, and regulations
  • Provide leadership, support and guidance to the underwriting operations team
  • Developing reports to track and monitor workflow so that staffing needs can be accurately identified 
  • Manage partner relationship with loss control vendor and assist in the development of an internal loss control process
  • Evaluating workflow to ensure that all operations workflow items meet service level expectation
  • Developing staff in terms of cross-training and leadership potential
  • Responding to any escalated calls and/or e-mails
  • Supervisory responsibilities include training; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems

Job Requirements: 

  • Minimum of 3 years of Commercial P&C Underwriting experience
  • Prior Supervisory experience and/or Team Lead experience preferred
  • Leadership ability
  • Problem solving/analysis
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proficient use of a computer
  • Attention to detail and accuracy 
  • Ability to de-escalate problem situations
  • Ability to work in a fast‐paced environment
  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
