Job Description Summary

In this role, you will be part of a team of experienced designers and researchers working with product managers, business architects and IT leaders on our flagship website, Travelers.com and other key brand sites. As a member of this cross functional team you will understand business goals and outcomes, generate user insights and translate user needs into highly engaging experiences that will resonate and amplify the Travelers brand. UX lead partners with a collaborative, cross-functional team to research, design and usability test digital experiences.
  • Support product managers and product owners by understanding key business objectives and setting the design strategy accordingly.
  • Identify, plan and lead design discovery activities that are critical to a design team's success.  Serves as the key point of accountability for UX efforts at the program level. Advocates for user-centered design approaches.
  • Helps to recruit and grow a team of outstanding UX professionals by providing vision, coaching, and mentorship.
  • Helps to create a dynamic team environment by fostering collaboration, experimentation, agility, and vigorous inquiry, while maintaining high expectations and attention to detail.
  • Lead the A/B, Multivariate, Split, & Funnel testing efforts, distilling key insights and trends into actionable direction.
  • Helps to create and evolve design systems and best practices that account for user needs and context, while reinforcing brand values and standards.
  • Ensures adherence to UX guidelines across programs and projects.
  • Sets UX resource allocation during ideation, prioritization, development, and quality assurance phases of projects and programs.  Facilitating group problem framing and sketching sessions with stakeholders.  Define user stories and run experiments to determine the best means of delivering value.
  • Ensures research, visual design, information architecture, and interaction design roles are adequately resourced.
  • Plans and conducts user research, usability testing efforts, and competitive research and analysis. Reports research findings to stakeholders. Translates these findings into design solutions.
  • Creates and oversees delivery of artifacts that include personas, journey maps, user workflows, ia maps, information architecture, wireframes, and interactive prototypes, within project timelines and budgets.
  • Work closely with developers on our team to create accessible, standards-compliant, reusable interface patterns that are production ready.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in graphic design, psychology, human factors, social sciences or related field or 5 years of User Experience work experience required.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge

8+ years' experience advocating for user design at an organizational level.

Outstanding communication, organization, time management and interpersonal skills.

Job Specific Functional Skills & Competencies

  • Familiarity or basic understating of web-based technologie and development approaches, including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, Mobile-First responsive web design, and common frameworks such as React, etc.
  • Experience with wireframing/ prototyping software.
  • Mastery in designing for content management system driven experiences and understanding the needs of publishers across the enterprise.
  • Deep understanding of Search Engine Optimization best practices and a proven track record of imbuing design solutions appropriately.
  • Mastery of common information architecture and interaction design methods and artifacts such as site maps, taxonomies, flow diagrams, mental models, content inventories, wireframes, etc.
  • Proven ability to facilitate workshops and meetings with diverse groups of stakeholders and users, sometimes with minimal planning, and providing a productive, enjoyable, collaborative experience.
  • Expert in conducting end user research and interviews, defining questions for, and designing user research studies, conducting research activities, evaluating results and synthesizing clear, actionable insights.
  • Proven ability to instill usability as a core value within a large organization's culture.
