Small Business Commercial Underwriter (Remote)
As an Underwriting Team Leader, you are given the flexibility to structure your own schedule which translates into an amazing quality of life. Of course, we expect you to put in a solid day’s work but no one is breathing down your neck about it. It is important to us that our team is happy and we know that no one is happy missing important life events, whether a school or sporting event for your children or a half-day on Friday for a long weekend with your significant other.
There is no travel, no prospecting, no cold calling or sales quotas. We provide you with a seasoned book of business and producers. You will be expertly trained, persistently mentored, and always have a full complement of support staff behind you. Our Sales & Marketing team will hunt down new clients to expand your agency book of producers as well as to circle behind your quotes to help you close deals. A team of assistant underwriters will handle the nontechnical aspects of day to day paperwork.
We bonus everyone on a team-based culture where everyone is focused on the “we” rather than “me” in everything they do.
This is a 100% remote role. You provide high-speed internet and telephone (cellular/hardline) and we drop-ship you a computer and dual monitors. Most of our team have a dedicated office in their homes that they work from however we also offer an executive office suite (like a Regus or WeWork) option for those who want to get out of the house.
This is arguably the best Underwriter role any professional could hope for. The proof is that our staff has been with us an average of 13 years with some over 20.
If we like what we see, we will send you an email invitation to take a personality dynamics assessment which is the first phase of our selection process. The assessment provides us with feedback to best select which trainer, manager, support staff, etc will be the most comfortable fit for you. Once we dial that fit in, we will coordinate the scheduling of interviews with the team so you can ask the hard questions and determine if we are all that we say we are.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Underwriting responsibilities include: evaluating, accepting, rejecting, or modifying Small Commercial risks within established underwriting guidelines and authority.
Demonstrate strong underwriting quality and profitability through appropriate risk selection and documentation
Takes ownership for an assigned book of business and communicates underwriting decisions quickly and effectively with assigned agents.
Build and maintain a result-oriented relationship with the Business Development Representative for assigned book of business to drive overall results including profitability, growth, and retention.
Proactively seek to retain key renewals by working closely with the Business Development Representative and agents to negotiate premium and terms and conditions
Create, implement, and execute individual agency plans in conjunction with Business Development Representative
Candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of multi-line underwriting experience within the Small Commercial space and possess knowledge of policy issuance and processing center workflows
Must possess a strong commercial multi-line underwriting acumen with the ability to handle and make rapid decisions on small commercial risks
Demonstrate problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to change as the company advances its strategic vision
Effective communication and demonstrated success with managing tight time frames, high volumes of work, agency relationships
Knowledge and proficiency with technical issues, compliance, coverage, products, and pricing strategies expected
Proficient in using the company’s commercial rating and policy issuance systems and software programs (MS Word, Excel) needed to conduct daily business
