Summary:

Provides strategic leadership, planning and execution of all claim activities for EMC Reinsurance (EMC Re).  Manages complex claim files for all types of reinsurance contracts and reviews new claim files.  Leads the EMC Re Claims team.  Drives vision and strategic planning for future and current claims goals of EMC Re.  Reviews and analyzes reports and makes recommendations on the direction of EMC Re’s future strategic goals regarding claims management and direction.  Sets the standard for EMC Re’s claims department. Provides information to assist in evaluation of business submissions and preparation of financial statements.

Essential Functions:      

  • Provides strategic leadership, planning and execution of all claim activities for EMC Re. Manages complex claim files for all types of reinsurance contracts and reviews new claim files
  • Collaborates with team members to establish performance goals and monitors status, conducts reviews and provides coaching
  • Reviews and analyzes reports and makes recommendations on the direction of EMC Re’s future strategic goals regarding claims management and direction
  • Identifies open balances, initiates payments to brokers and applies cash to claims accounts payable and accounts receivable in the reinsurance system
  • Consults with Underwriting, Accounting and management teams to assist with evaluation of ceding companies, underwriting of reinsurance agreements, determination of appropriate audit schedule, accuracy of claims numbers in financial reports and resolving discrepancies Reviews monthly reports related to cash balances such as the open balance report
  • Performs claim audits to ensure cedants’ claims are handled and reserved accurately and are reported correctly to reinsurers
  • Answers questions, solves problems and serves as proxy for the Vice President when necessary

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, insurance or related field, or equivalent relevant work experience
  • Ten years of experience in claims within reinsurance or property and casualty insurance or related experience
  • Prior experience in reinsurance preferred
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience
  • Insurance and reinsurance designations, such as CPCU, SCLA, AIC and ARe, preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of reinsurance underwriting industry
  • Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities
  • Ability to identify, adopt, and implement innovative solutions
  • Ability to work strategically and collaboratively across departments
  • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills

Regular travel, valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards will be required if driving
