The Company

Liberty Mutual Investments (LMI) manages Liberty Mutual Insurance Groups (LMIG) global financial assets across global and private domains to build capital and generate income. With over $80 billion in AUM and staffed with 250-plus investment, finance and operations professionals located in Boston, MA, we offer the best of both worlds the look and feel of a boutique investment firm and the reputation and financial strength of a global leader.

LMI has been on a transformation path to spur innovation, capitalize on deep expertise and scale its returns on long-term flexible capital through a one firm, one portfolio, one team mindset. Our operating model is built on three pillars: centralized portfolio construction, asset management and investment-enabling services. The teams are structured as Investment Business Units (IBUs) working in concert: Strategy & Asset Allocation, Risk Management, Global Fixed Income, Global Partnerships & Innovation and Investment Enabling Services (IES). Our portfolio spans a broad spectrum of public and private asset classes, and we are committed to expanding our capabilities and our toolkit in furtherance of our mission.

LMIG is proud to be recognized for a second time in 2019 as a Best Workplace for Diversity by Fortune magazine and as a Great Place to Work.

The Position

LMI is actively searching for an Analyst to join the Strategy & Asset Allocation (SAA) team. SAA is the nerve center of LMI, responsible for developing the tools and insights necessary for deconstructing the macro/market narrative, informing top-down house views, proposing cross-asset trades, setting the asset allocation for the General Account (GA), and directly managing the GAs public equity exposure as well as the Pension. SAA functions as the Office of the Chief Investment Officer (CIO), influencing all aspects of the portfolio management process and ensuring that LMI delivers for its LMIG partners.

In this role, you will work closely with portfolio managers, traders, and analysts in a fast-paced environment to meaningfully contribute to SAA Research Team and SAA Pension Team initiatives and to the broader groups expanding sphere of influence. SAA is a small, nimble, and versatile team, looking for candidates who want to seize opportunities and take ownership of growing list of deliverables that drive the decision-making process.

  • Construct dashboards that link disparate data sources to enhance investment management and reporting processes

  • Conduct research across public and private markets to bolster idea generation and asset class selection processes

  • Execute initial and ongoing due diligence of current and prospective mandates, managers, and implementation vehicles

  • Build robust and repeatable practices for feeding the asset allocation process and informing LMI & LMIG about the rationale for portfolio construction decisions

  • Develop exhibits to illustrate team views, contextualize market activity, and generate investment ideas

  • Establish centralized research platform, broaden distribution of content, and onboard new users

  • Bachelor's degree and 1-3 years of relevant work experience
  • Must be a self-motivated and self-confident independent operator, able and eager to apply analytical rigor to a wide range of highly influential workstreams
  • Must be comfortable conducting deep-dive research assignments as well as making recommendations with limited information
  • Must have excellent communication skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities and time-sensitive deliverables with a high degree of quality and accuracy
  • Strong analytical and quantitative background and experience with programming languages preferred
  • Familiarity with Bloomberg, Macrobond, and Aladdin preferred
