This position has full responsibility for managing medical malpractice and associated lines of coverage for miscellaneous healthcare facilities. Responsible for maintaining underwriting integrity while growing the book. Manages a team of underwriting professional located across the country.

This position is posted for the following locations: Boston, MA, New York, NY, Chicago, IL, Weatogue, CT, and Atlanta, GA. This position is also open to remote locations.


  • Provide support and direction to underwriters in their decision making relative to specific accounts.
  • Participate in producer and industry functions to increase visibility in the marketplace.

  • Underwrite most complex/demanding accounts and risks and consider different approaches toward risks to maximize profitability (e.g., pricing, retention, endorsements, limits, etc.) by considering all factors related to the account.

  • Develop, measure and communicate product, pricing, marketing and underwriting strategies to field underwriters.

  • Collaborate with Senior Management to maintain the highest standards of product line profitability, marketability and regulatory compliance.

  • Provide recommended direction to Senior Management in balance growth, risk and profitability.

  • Develop and amend existing product, applications and endorsements along with associated underwriting strategy.

  • Enhance engagement and visibility in the marketplace in concert Regional Managers.

  • Support and encourage cross sell opportunities within IronHealth, Ironshore, and Liberty Mutual.

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent training plus at least 7 years of relevant and progressively more responsible production underwriting experience. Requires at least 3 years people management experience.

  • Requires an advanced knowledge of underwriting concepts, practices, procedures and techniques, including, but not limited to coverage issues, product lines, marketing, and product competition within the marketplace.

  • Advanced knowledge of medical malpractice particularly in underwriting miscellaneous medical facilities.

  • The ability to effectively interact with brokers and internal departments is also required.

  • Strong verbal and written communications, and organizational skills.

  • Strong negotiation, analytical and decision making skills also required.

  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
