Job Description

Performs complex activities related to special accounting projects; preparation of financial reports/models and analysis of financial/accounting data.  Supervises the activities of an assigned staff.


The Life and Annuities, Reserves and DAC team in Operational Accounting is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of life reserves, deferred acquisition costs, policy counts, and amounts of insurance reported in the company’s published financial reports.  This role contributes toward that purpose by overseeing the completion of SOX controls, monthly and quarterly close processes and disclosures, annual statement schedules, data requests, and support for the Actuarial Opinion Memorandum.
 

Key Responsibilities

  • Uses advanced accounting principles and understand the concepts, rules and terminology to the science of accounting.
  • Review and evaluate complex issues and analyze Accounting/Financial/technical information.
  • Identify, develop and applies ideas and approaches to complex issues, solving problems and accomplishing goals.
  • In-depth knowledge of Accounting/Financial/technical processes.
  • Plans, implements and manages small-medium scale projects.
  • Enrolled in Leadership Curriculum process.
  • "Day to day" workflow management knowledge. 
  • Considers the impact of the Insurance Industry operations and issues on one's work.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This job involves review of work that is prepared both within and outside of the Accounting team.

Job Qualifications

Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent experience 
  • 5 or more years of related experience 

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • CPA preferred

 


Functional Skills

  • Understands the concepts, rules, and terminology common to the science of Accounting.
  • Advanced knowledge and ability to use the concepts, techniques, and issues involved in planning projects and processes, including attention to detail, prioritizing tasks, and articulating findings.
  • Intermediate understanding of the Insurance Industry. 
  • Intermediate ability to develop tools and reports using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access and SAP Business Objects to analyze large, complex data sets.
     

The candidate(s) offered this position will be required to submit to a background investigation, which includes a drug screen.
