The primary role for Claims & Benefits Specialist is to research, collect, record and process death claims and settlement option elections within Navy Mutual’s life insurance platform (ALIP).

This position is full-time and is located in Arlington, Virginia and will report to the Director of Customer & Beneficiary Services.

Core Working Hours: 8:30 am to 5:00 pm

Qualifications/Characteristics:

· Bachelor’s degree and/or 2-4 years of relevant experience required

· Previous experience working with life insurance claims and benefits is a plus

· Previous experience working in a professional customer service environment is a must

· The ideal candidate will demonstrate a high level of professionalism, an exceptional customer focus, and very strong attention to detail

· Must also possess strong independent thinking and problem-solving skills, and the flexibility and patience to work through multiple customer demands and challenges

· This person will adapt well under pressure, be self-motivated and self-directed, and driven to go the extra mile to ensure Navy Mutual’s goals are achieved while delivering exceptional customer service

 

Primary Responsibilities:

· Research, collect, record and process death claims and settlement option elections within Navy Mutual’s life insurance platform (ALIP)

 

· Assist in maintaining Member vault documents, to include acknowledging receipt of and returning documents, informing Members about which documents to consider maintaining with Navy Mutual, and imaging and filing of such documents

 

· Review and record change of beneficiary requests

 

· Notify other insurance companies and finance centers of insured’s death

 

· Obtain and maintain a thorough knowledge of Navy Mutual products and services, and beneficiary service department software programs and processes

 

· Prepare and review beneficiary services related correspondence

 

· Research and follow-up with beneficiaries regarding unpaid death claims

 

· Assist in answering calls and emails from people reporting a death or inquiring about the status of a current claim

 

· Comply with all pertinent laws/regulations, and all Navy Mutual bylaws and policies established by the Board of Directors and management

 

· Other duties as assigned
