Job Summary
Within Infrastructure and Cloud Services at Travelers, Business Intelligence and Analytics Technology Engineering Support team has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Technology Engineer for Ab Initio. This position will be responsible for supporting the Ab Initio and Talend platforms, including: infrastructure planning, upgrades, scaling, and user management and platform integration with many diverse sources. The Sr Technology Engineer will work both proactively and responsively to ensure business application platforms are highly available and performing within agreed on service levels.

Under general supervision, demonstrates a thorough understanding of the activities performed related to engineering support, installation and/or operations of infrastructure technologies. Plans at an operational level designing and developing technology solutions interfacing with appropriate customers, management and technical resources. Facilitates and/or participates in the design, development, and implementation of large complex technology solutions supporting one or more business and/or technology areas. Develops and implements appropriate solutions that may involve multiple platforms, databases, software/hardware technologies and tools. Strong ability to multi-task in an environment of changing priorities. This job is a team lead.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
Successful candidate will perform the following key areas of responsibilities:
  • Leverage work using Agile delivery methodologies with product management or product owner experience.
  • Must be a team player and able to work collaboratively with both on shore and off shore team members.
  • Candidate should be able to manage moderately complex efforts that require extensive integration and collaboration across functional units of the enterprise.
  • The ideal candidate must be a self-starter and inquisitive with the ability to navigate across diverse teams and skill sets.
  • Plan, schedule and document upgrades, patches and maintenance to the Enterprise system within the bounds of existing change processes.
  • Responsible for triaging, diagnosing, and escalation of issues/inquiries to vendors arising during platform engineering and daily operational activities.
Evaluates systems specifications regarding customer requirements, transforming specifications into cost-effective, technically correct solutions. Prioritizes work and manages projects within established budget objectives and customer priorities. Responsible for establishing and managing to established quality control and security protocols. Provides the division, department and business area management with timely and accurate information regarding the status and performance of the assigned project(s). Leverages technology to develop, redesign and/or implement optimal technology solutions. Builds, leverages, and maintains effective alliances across technical and business community. Interacts with customers to achieve efficient, effective results. Multi-tasks, prioritizes according to business priorities and production availability requirements. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent required. 3 years of experience in Technology required.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
Computer Science degree or equivalent experience of 5+ years in ETL Technology preferred.


Job Specific & Technical Skills & Competencies
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with Ab Initio and ETL technologies (Talend a plus)
  • Experience integrating with one or more Data platforms (e.g.: Teradata, Hadoop, Oracle, SQL Server, DB2).
  • Experience with one or more Analytic/Data Visualization tools (e.g.: Cognos, Qlik) a plus.
  • SQL-based database platforms such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, DB/2. Familiarity with NoSQL platforms such as MongoDB, Redis, Neo4j is helpful.
  • Experience with supporting enterprise level platforms, platform integration techniques, capacity planning, security, performance tuning and monitoring
  • Experience in administering, and supporting RHEL operating systems
  • Experience in typical system administration and programming skills such as storage capacity management, debugging, and platform performance tuning
  • Proficient in shell scripting (e.g. BASH,ksh,etc) Jenkins, Python, Java a plus
  • Experience in setup, configuration and management of common security concepts for integration with LDAP/AD at an Enterprise level. Understanding of SSL configuration is a plus.
  • Familiar with automation tools like ansible and puppet
  • Strong communication skills* written and speaking while paying close attention to detail
  • Innovative with the ability to simplify cumbersome processes - Takes initiative
  • Strong attention to detail and experience with Agile delivery methodologies/Kanban
  • Self-learner is a must
  • Understanding of public cloud concepts is a plus
  • Understanding of SSL configuration is a plus.
  • Experience with configuring different types of database connections a plus
