Assurant has an exciting opportunity for a Payroll Tax Analyst!

This individual is the main liaison with ADP on payroll tax issues. The position is responsible for all activities related to Payroll tax, monitoring, managing and reconciling payroll taxes at the employer and employee level. This includes auditing, identifying and resolving tax variances to ensure compliance with payroll tax issues. Responsibilities Plan, consult, and ensure compliance with employee payroll taxes. This includes:
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state and local legal requirements
  • Reconcile payroll tax reporting after each pay run to ensure accurate filings by ADP tax service provider
  • Work with Payroll Specialists on auditing during payroll week.
  • Perform internal quarterly audits and monitor tax filings
  • Investigates and responds to tax authority notices and correspondence in and correspondence in a timely manner
  • Direct, coordinate and assist with ADP/tax dept in resolving government notices and filing amended returns
  • Research and reconciliation of payroll taxes from prior periods
  • Reconciliation of earnings to annual W-2 forms
  • Gather and report requested data to internal and external recipients
  • Understanding the basic different pay types, deductions and their taxation and downstream impact of tax reporting
  • Understand and document current processes, recommend areas for improvement

Qualifications

  • An Associates degree in Finance, Accounting or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of professional experience handling multi-state payroll taxes
  • 4-6 years experience with payroll tax filings and compliance issues
  • 5 + years of professional experience handling edge of multi-state payroll operating under multiple FEINs
  • Requires payroll and payroll tax experience in a medium to large sized company.
  • Must be detailed oriented with a focus on quality and accuracy
  • Intermediate Excel and Word. Data entry experience. Knowledge of Workday, PeopleSoft, ADP or other Payroll/tax software and its operational uses
  • Ability to meet all assigned deadlines
  • Requires proven payroll tax technical proficiency
  • Requires solid technical knowledge, including understanding payroll tax law and procedures
  • Requires proficiency in working with numbers and large quantities of detailed information.
  • Requires excellent oral and written skills to effectively communicate complex payroll-related matters in understandable terms to all levels within the organization
  • Requires flexibility to changing priorities and creativeness and/or willingness to find solutions
  • Requires skill in building and sustaining relationships with individuals within and outside Assurant
Preferred Experience, Skills and Knowledge
  • A Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Desirable for the incumbent to have attained or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification
  • 2-4 years Payroll/Accounting experience
  • Requires ability to regularly apply critical thinking, possess solid organizational skills, and be detailed oriented
  • Requires ability to dependably meet deadlines, produce quality work while focusing on priorities
  • Requires ability to keep processes simple and work to streamline them without losing track of desired end results
  • Requires ability to remain proficient in current payroll tax law and communicate effectively to others
  • Be able to perform duties under deadline pressure in a fast-paced, high volume, office work environment
  • Must be flexible and have the ability to react well to pressure, frequently prioritizing tasks and keeping on track to ensure closure
  • Detailed oriented with attention to accuracy is critical
  • This position may come in contact with protected health information on an occasional or episodic basis.The nature of this job requires the employee to review specific protected health information for the purposes of performing the accountabilities of this position
  • Ensure that access to and use of the protected health information is limited to that needed to adequately perform their job responsibilities and accountabilities
  • Effectively communicate with Assurant contacts across multi-site business units
  • Frequently re-prioritize tasks as needed
