What is a Vice President, Business Development at Assurant, Financial Services?

You will report to the SVP of Financial Services and manage the full sales cycle as the Vice President of Business Development. The VP will be responsible for identifying quality sales leads and developing revenue from new business prospects in target channels. This individual will generate business opportunities by identifying prospects, evaluating prospects' position in the marketplace, developing and closing business opportunities, and researching and analyzing solutions.

In this role, you will achieve sales objectives by identifying, pursuing market and niche opportunities marketing on financial services products. The position entails identifying, qualifying, contacting and scheduling initial consultations with targeted prospects, leading proposal development efforts, making sales presentations, and closing new business accounts, along with managing the subsequent contracting and implementation process. You will keep business leaders informed of industry developments by monitoring competitive products and building rapport with our customers. The successful VP will continue meeting targeted growth objectives driving our business to success.

Primary Responsibilities

This role will generate sales by cold calling and cultivating relationships across this Financial Services industry. In addition, you will bring in new accounts by identifying customer needs, participating in the development of client plans and introducing new products and services. Influence prospects to partner with Assurant to offer our products and services by controlling the sales process and identifying and pursuing market opportunities. Enhance relationships with clients by providing support, guidance, and innovative ideas to differentiate from competition. Attend industry events/shows, research and recommend new opportunities and profit/service improvements. Being that key resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues. Provide in-depth knowledge of the industries affecting this Assurant business line. Thrive in understanding financial trends, fluctuations with assigned clients, effectively communicate issues and resolutions to clients and internal business team. You will also develop sales strategies and execute account plans in support of goals/objectives.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or related field;
  • 5 years of experience in financial services/insurance industry or sold into those industries
  • 10 years of experience selling to, growing, and managing key accounts.
  • Working knowledge of the financial services and/or insurance industry; vast network of contacts within these industries

Other Requirements:

  • Strong skills in all facets of the sales process: Targeting/Industry Analysis, Client Needs Assessment, Proposal Development, Executive Presentation, Client Acquisition, Contract Negotiations, Overcoming Objections, Closing and Overall Account Management
  • Experience in the content creation and delivery during the sales process using a deep understanding of the prospective client’s needs.
  • Knowledge of basic project management concepts and best practices and an ability to manage projects to completion
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Basic knowledge of Salesforce strongly preferred
  • Ability to asses new business lines
