Job Summary
The Bond & Specialty Insurance Technology organization seeks a talented Software Developer to join our Claim Agile Release Train. You will work on a System Team following Scaled Agile Framework principles and will be responsible for assisting in the development, maintenance, testing and support of Bond Claim applications.


Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
You

You are a talented software developer with at least 1+ years of development lifecycle experience. You enjoy seeking opportunities to be a technical advocate to support, influence, develop, and or redesign strategic software applications. You stay on top of the latest technology trends and have a passion for responsive web, web services and API enabled architecture. You also enjoy working as a part of a team in a collaborative environment where experimentation and innovation are strongly encouraged.

Your Day

As a member of the System Team, you will work collaboratively under general supervision to support the development environment infrastructure, integrate assets from Agile teams, perform end-to-end test automation, and assist with deployment and release activities. You will have the autonomy to experiment in the spirit of Agile and Lean - do what works, try new things, and stop doing what doesn't work. Responsibilities include assisting the System Team with:
  • Technical runway
  • Feature development
  • Designing, developing, and executing both manual and automated tests
  • Defect analysis and resolution
  • Support production release cycles
  • Dev Ops support and coordination
System Team Duties:
  • Create and maintain infrastructure, including continuous integration, automated builds, and automated build verification testing
  • Create platforms and environments for solution demos, development, quality assurance, user acceptance testing and staging
  • Create products, utilities, scripts, and newly automated test scenarios to automate deployment
  • Perform manual testing and run automated tests for new features and user stories
  • Run solution-level integration scripts or manually integrate where automation is not yet possible
  • Test solution performance against nonfunctional requirements
  • Coordinate external dependencies with Neighbors and SMEs
  • Assist System and Solution Engineering in identifying system shortfalls and bottlenecks
  • Assist Product Teams with the elimination of blockers
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent required. 1 year of programming/development experience required.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred. 3 years of programming/development experience preferred.

Demonstrates an aptitude for learning and applying new programming languages and/or software development disciplines. Continues to develop understanding of the supported business systems. Beginning to develop the ability to recognize and analyze basic incident/defect trends and appropriately escalate. Communication Skills: Ability to communicate thoughts/designs/ideas in an unambiguous manner and adjusts communication based on audience. Exhibits active and effective communication skills with team members - including active listening and effective written and verbal communication skills. Effectively contributes and communicates with the immediate team. Problem Solving & Decision Making: Able to recognize and analyze business and technology problems of intermediate complexity with minimal supervision. Able to leverage previous experience to consider a variety of alternatives to arrive at a timely, practical, and cost-effective solution to resolve defects or incidents. Team Orientation: Ability to foster relationships with peers to achieve objectives. Practices objectivity and openness to others' views. Able to recognize and support team priorities. Planning: Ability to manage time and competing priorities and provide management with accurate and timely status information. Able to effectively evaluate and estimate routine tasks with clear precedent Financial Awareness: Able to understand how the project schedule relates to budget.

Environmental/Work Schedules/Other
May require limited weekend work hours to support monthly release activities as needed. May require overnight and holiday work hours (federal and religious) in rare cases. Travel (1 or more weeks) as needed up to 5% of the time.


Preferred Qualifications
Experience with:
  • Working in an Agile Team environment
  • Dev Ops support
  • Trunk-based development
  • Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery
  • Test Driven Development
  • Source control practices leveraging Subversion (SVN) and GitHub
  • Strong SQL skills and a solid understanding of database design concepts
  • Working knowledge of test automation practices, and frameworks using tools such as UFT, Selenium, JMeter or similar
  • HTML, CSS, JavaScript, C#, VB.NET, .Net Core, and ASP.NET MVC
  • Web based frameworks: JQuery, Node.js, Angular or Vue


Physical Requirements
Operates standard office equipment. Requires extended periods of computer use. Requires extended periods of sitting.

Licensing or Certificates
Depends on the specific role but some examples may include: ITIL Java certification Microsoft certification.net Kanban/Agile/SAFe
