Hosting Services Applications Environments is an outcome-aligned organization which is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of all compute environments including mainframe, traditional midrange, IaaS, PaaS and Public Cloud. This position is in the Mainframe Software Platform team which is part of the Hybrid Compute Technology group. The team is responsible for all Teleprocessing systems (CICS, IMS), mainframe database (DB2), automation, the cross systems messaging system (MQ), and mainframe software services. The CICS System Administrators within this team are exposed to many different technologies that operate on the mainframe as well as internal and external cloud environments.

This is a range posting and the description is posted as a Grade 17. However, candidates will be considered for Grades 15-17. The actual internal level/grade for this role will depend on the candidate’s overall experience and skill level.

About the job:

  • Provides CICS administration, operational support and problem resolution for large systems.
  • Performs software installation and upgrades.
  • Monitors system performance and capacity; reports changes in usage.
  • Forecasts system demands, recommends upgrades, expansion and reconfiguration.
  • Troubleshoots hardware and software problems, takes appropriate corrective action and/or interacts with IT staff or vendors in performing complex testing, support and troubleshooting functions.
  • Participates in site set-up, user training, software installation, maintenance and support and documentation of software logs and operating procedures.
  • Performs basic user administration (adds, changes, deletes, disk space management, backups and file restore).
  • Documents standards and operating procedures for a large based system and acts as a technical resource to the IT staff and systems users.
  • May lead projects or subprojects including developing project plans, assigning tasks and facilitating team process.
  • Consults on complex technical issues.
  • Depicts highly complex ideas, issues and designs to varied audiences.
  • Coordinates and performs basic user administration (adds, changes, deletes, disk space management, backups and file restore).
  • Provides technical guidance and assists in training of less experienced administrators.

  • Facilitates team work process and meetings and provides training to clients or teams during implementation.

  • Communications project objectives, scope and direction across project teams.

  • Performs related duties as assigned or requested.

Desired Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and a minimum of 7 years' experience in system operations and administration, telecommunications network installation, operation and maintenance or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • Requires an extensive knowledge of operating environments; technologies span mainframe, midrange, desktop, server, network data, voice, messaging, web, and database.

  • Strong consultative and communications skills, analytical ability, judgment and the ability to work effectively with client and other systems technical staff, consultants and vendors.

  • Highly developed communication, negotiation, presentation and consensus building skill required.

  • Thorough knowledge of business objectives, strategies and operations required.
