Global Retail Markets Actuarial West Region is seeking a Senior Actuarial Manager responsible for evaluating the adequacy of local held reserves and supporting the local regulatory and economic capital work in our Latin America Markets (Andino, Brazil, and Chile). This position is responsible for evaluating $500M of net reserves via early and effective recognition and communication of key trends and risks to the GRM West Chief Actuary, COO, CFO, and to partner with market/country Presidents and operational leaders to ensure transparency into the financial health of local operations. The qualified candidate will manage a mid-sized team located in all three markets and will report directly to Dea Malollari, West Region Chief Actuary of GRM Actuarial.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and own local reserve opinions and adequacy assessments for all lines of business within Andino, Brazil and Chile, having in depth knowledge of the balance sheet.

  • Communicate reserve results to regional and local Senior Management, clearly articulating drivers of results, areas of uncertainty, and impact on business decisions.

  • Support local regulatory capital requirement calculations, working closely with local Finance teams.

  • Work with GRM Actuarial Risk and Capital teams to understand Economic Capital Modeling process and further the knowledge within the local market. Provide insights into local market financial performance and plans to further refine models accuracy.

  • Partner with regional and Local Claims and Product Management to understand operational changes and impacts on reserve patterns and adequacy.

  • Support the financial planning process by providing key actuarial inputs and ranges around those selections.

  • Partner with Latin America trends analytics team to understand internal and industry trends and to ensure reserve estimates incorporate the impact of ongoing changes in the legal and operational environment.

  • Collaborate with the GRM actuarial teams, seeking opportunities to share knowledge and leverage best practices.

  • Assist local reserving managers with local statutory requirements.

  • Work closely with external parties, such as auditors, to explain our processes, controls, and results.

  • Enhance interactions with key stakeholders, soliciting feedback on changes and driving implementation.

  • Provide employees with regular feedback and coaching, and ensure they understand performance expectations.

Qualifications:

  • University degree required.

  • Professional actuarial designation or other comparable actuarial education/designation combined with relevant experience required.

  • Knowledge of actuarial modelling packages such as ResQ and advance reserving techniques a plus.

  • Be an excellent influencer, with very strong analytical and innovative problem solving skills.

  • Skilled in project and remote people management. Experience in multinational insurance entities and different regulatory regimes.

  • Thorough and broad understanding of the business and general insurance industry.

  • Strong English language skills (verbal and written) required. Proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese a distinct advantage.

  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in a multi-cultural or cross-border organization an advantage.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply the depth/breadth of actuarial skills and business acumen with 5 or more years of progressively responsible actuarial experience, including managerial experience. Reserving and/or capital experience highly preferred.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills required to establish and build effective relationships within and outside the organization.
