Key Responsibilities:

• You will be responsible for the handling of all litigated matters assigned by the Managing Attorney and will do all the tasks necessary to prepare the cases for mediation, pre-trial, trial and post-trial resolution in the defense of State Auto and State Auto insureds.
• You will maintain all requirements for the practice of law in the state to which you are admitted to practice.
• Handle all litigated matters within the practice and protocol as established per the Case Handling Guidelines, and as directed by Corporate Claim Counsel and/or the Managing Attorney of the House Counsel Office to which you are assigned.
• May be called upon to perform additional tasks as necessary.

Minimum Experience/Education:

• Juris Doctorate (JD) Degree is required.
• 8+ years of experience in Insurance Defense Litigation or related field preferred.
• Licensed to practice law in the state in which the position is located.
• In-house counsel experience for an insurer is a plus.
• Basic computer skills and Google/Microsoft applications.
• Property & Casualty Insurance experience required.

Communication and Collaboration Skills

Ability to write simple, as well as highly complex and technical memos, letters, analyses, and reports. Must have the ability to write pretrial, trial, post-trial and appellate materials. Ability to communicate and explain both simple and complex materials to Company personnel, opposing counsel, judges and juries, either individually or in groups.

Problem Solving:

Experience preparing for trial and trying cases involving first and third party claims against insurance companies or their insureds, including appeals. Ability to prepare all forms of correspondence and pleadings. Perform case handling guideline functions within the case management system.
