Job Details

The primary role of the Business Systems Analyst is to support systems and staff by recommending and implementing system enhancements that promote efficiency, compliance and growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Acts as the customer / IT liaison during analysis, requirements definition and design activities; maintains an understanding of business processes and related systems for supported business units; participates in management of customer expectations, collaborates with business partners to define and document business and functional requirements and works with technical staff to develop solution alternatives.
  • Coordinates testing activities for maintenance and project assignments; identifies testing scope and scenarios, and estimates of effort, duration and resources required; prepares test plans and scripts; performs systems testing of moderate complexity; coordinates testing efforts and activities including test scheduling, results monitoring, feedback and sign-offs; coordinates issues tracking and resolution. Applies Assurant IT testing standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in the Project Management process; contributes to project deliverables including vision documents, status reports, and project, risk, resource and financial plans; communicates status, business impacts and system changes to team members, business partners, sponsors, management and other interested parties.
  • Provides general customer and IT support for assigned business applications; works with the user and technical staff to identify the source of problems; contributes to development of effective resolutions; maintains system support tables; contributes to technical and business rollout activities by supporting implementations for business units and technical support; contributes to training efforts by writing documentation or manuals, preparing presentations, delivering training, or providing follow-up to training.

Required skills/experience:

  • 3 to 5 years of progressive Business Systems Analyst experience.
  • Associate Degree in a technical or business discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledge of planning, analysis and testing techniques required to support either mainframe or distributed application development.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to utilize business system analysis, modeling, design and documentation techniques, and testing methodologies.
  • Familiarity with data content and structures for systems supported.
  • Awareness in project management processes, including: project planning and tracking, risk and issues identification, assessment, tracking, and mitigation.
  • Knowledge of the capabilities, features and limitations of system development tools.
  • Basic knowledge of project process re-engineering approaches and techniques.
  • Project Management and/or Business Systems Analyst Certification a plus
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to management, team members, business and technology professionals.
  • Ability to analyze business problems and propose effective solutions.
  • Ability to coordinate system testing cycle, issues tracking and resolution.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments and priorities.
  • Ability to develop good working relationships with business sponsors, business partners and technical staff.
  • Ability to adapt to a variety of project team roles, such as analyst, tester, documentation writer, or trainer.
  • Continuous learning of new skills that add value to projects and assignments.
  • Ability to deliver results on time and within budget.
