The Medical Stop Loss Sales & Distribution director will oversee the sales, distribution and marketing of a $200M+ book of stop loss business including employer stop loss insurance, HMO Reinsurance, Provider Excess Insurance and other specialty healthcare program business. This position will work under the direction of the Medical Stop Loss Chief Underwriting Officer but will work closely with the MSL Sales / Account executives as well as the underwriting teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Behave in a manner that exhibits the company’s core values. Develop, support and promote distribution and sales activities that adhere to stop loss underwriting guidelines and appetite while soliciting and securing profitable business.
  • Develop annual sales goals for stop loss sales executives based on geographical focus, including optimal mix of new and renewal business and persistency rates.
  • Meet regularly with stop loss sales executives to review RFP activity in respective assigned regions. Review RFP statistics including # RFPs, quote ratios, decline ratios, hit ratios etc. Seek improvement as needed.
  • Seek sources of business that best align with the Company’s stop loss appetite including an optimal mix of retail versus wholesale distribution partners, TPAs, national brokerage firms and local/regional brokers.
  • Manage producer agreements including documenting commission agreements and reviewing at least annually with production sources.
  • Meet regularly with key production sources to review sales activity and to develop/grow/maintain relationships as needed.
  • Liaison with the GRS Distribution teams and IronHealth regional management team with respect to national brokerage business or other areas where relationships across company lines may be leveraged.
  • Responsible for maximizing medical stop loss cross-selling opportunities within the IronHealth professional liability lines as well as other Liberty Mutual lines.
  • Annually review the sales incentive structure of the stop loss account executive team to ensure that incentives align with the annual production and profitability goals.
  • Work cross functionally with the Company’s corporate marketing teams to ensure stop loss sales team has marketing collateral as needed to promote the stop loss business in the market at trade shows / conferences and at broker and client meetings.
  • Represent the Company at industry trade conferences and promote the Ironshore/Liberty brand in such venues.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in stop loss sales and/or underwriting functions
  • Minimum 5+ years supervisory experience in leadership roles
