Job Summary
The primary function of this Lead Data Architect position is to provide architectural guidance, technological recommendations and transition strategies that support the development and implementation of data warehousing and analytical reporting initiatives while also providing hands-on consultation and modeling experience to other large initiatives within the Bond and SI Technology space. Focus is on the development of an end to end information architecture and strategy, playing a lead role on projects by providing the appropriate data architecture solutions and ensuring alignment with the overall data management strategies.


Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Chair the Bond Data Center of Excellence to ensure effective and consistent Data Architecture across Value Streams.
  • Define Bond data architecture vision, strategy, principles and standards; get buy-in from stake-holders, management, business partners, and propagate throughout the division based on corporate guidelines and procedures.
  • Provide framework, stewardship, governance and decision making for management of data for project development teams, business users and other stake-holders.
  • Serve as an expert resource on matters of data architecture to business and Technology staff in all phases of data warehouse and data mart development, implementation and support.
  • Provide guidance to development application areas by applying knowledge of data warehouse design, extract-transform-load (ETL) design and development.
  • Balance short-term versus long-term actions, strategic versus tactical requirements, while continuing to move forward towards the strategic vision. Establish an architecture roadmap covering transactional, operational and business intelligence. Ensure architectural adherence through blueprint and design reviews.
  • Incorporate into Bond the enterprise data management methodology and standards for data modeling and data architecture.
  • Create appropriate standards, processes and tools to promote and facilitate:
  • Mapping of data sources
  • Documenting interfaces and data movement
  • Designing the movement of data through the enterprise:
  • Defining integrative views of data especially for analytic purposes
  • Focus on data quality:
  • Put in place governance processes around meta-data to ensure an integrated definition of data for enterprise information, and to ensure the accuracy, validity, and reusability of meta-data.
  • Participate in developing consistent definitions for common reference data.
  • Establish measures to chart progress related to completeness and quality of meta-data for enterprise information, to support reduction of data redundancy and fragmentation, elimination of unnecessary movement of data, and improvement of data quality.
  • Provide input on large-scale projects and road maps for compatibility with the vision.
  • Drive selection of data management tools, and the development of standards, usage guidelines and procedures for those tools.
  • Define the process to resolved cross-organizational data management issues.
  • Provide consulting support for the roll-out of meta-data management processes and tools.
  • Research and document information architecture standards and best practices.
  • Define meta-data checklists and requirements to be met at the project level and to be included in project plans.
  • Management of the relationship with project teams using / implementing meta-data management processes.
  • Provide support on use of common enterprise information models and promote their use and enhancement by new projects.


Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent required. 5 years of experience in enterprise, application, and/or information architecture required. 1 year of experience as a technical lead required.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred. 7 years of experience in enterprise, application, and/or information architecture preferred. 3 years of experience as a technical lead preferred. Experience managing others preferred.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 7 years of experience in:
    • Creating and maintaining end to end data architectures
    • Logical, access, and physical, data modeling
    • Normalized and dimensional data modeling techniques
    • Data analysis and mapping
    • Creation and usage of metadata
  • Working knowledge of modeling tools (e.g., Computer Associates (CA) AllFusion: ERWIN Model Manager, IBM Rational Suite, Rational (RSA & RDA))
  • Hands-on technical experience using data warehouse, business intelligence and analytics products
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills
  • Team oriented with excellent collaboration skills
  • Attention to detail, and a commitment to quality work
  • Exhibits leadership qualities
  • Experience working in a matrixed organization
  • Experience in Property Casualty insurance, Bond and Financial Products a plus
  • Strong access modeling/SQL Query skills leaning towards the physical data modeling practice a plus
