As a Claims Adjuster Trainee, you will ensure claims are fairly and accurately investigated and evaluated in accordance with established timelines, customer service standards, and quality standards. For our Claims Staff it’s all about helping people. You will be responsible for determining coverage analyzing damages of property claims, which includes the ability to negotiate and complete settlements fairly and equitably with all parties. During your time as a trainee, you will be supported by a mentor and continue training as we increase your authority level.

We’ll provide you with paid training, while you learn the nuts and bolts of insurance. You’ll have the support of a collaborative team and the opportunity to develop your career with ASI/Progressive Home.

Pay Rate: $21 to $24 per hour depending on experience, plus:

  • An annual bonus of up to 16% of your salary! Our bonus program rewards each of us based on company performance.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8-5PM or 9-6PM; includes Saturday & Late Shift (10-7PM) approx. every 12-16 weeks.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Examines and appropriately interprets insureds' policies, forms in force, and other records.
  • Uses varying methods of investigation, including taking recorded statements, consulting with police, inspecting property damage, and reviewing documents.
  • Determines extent of company's liability.
  • Identifies and communicates potential underwriting concerns.
  • Estimates and/or negotiates cost of repair, replacement, or compensation.
  • Manages diaries and tasks in the Claims System.
  • Prepares clear and concise diary notes, settlement letters, denial letters, Reservation of Rights, and other letters as needed.
  • Recognizes the need for SIU involvement and identifies files for potential subrogation.
  • Effectively manages pending files in accordance with Claims Best Practices.
  • Effectively handles challenging calls from customers, vendors, and others.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree; four years of prior work experience with a history of high performance within financial services, customer service, construction, property management, or related field; or some combination thereof. Property and casualty experience helpful.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, 7 days per week with 12-hour shifts for major catastrophes, and overtime as needed for claim spikes.
  • Ability to grasp concepts quickly, pay attention to details, problem solve, apply high-school-level math skills, and make appropriate decisions.
  • Effectively communicating verbally and in writing.
  • Organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Demonstrates active listening skills through effective use of questions, reflection, and empathy.
  • Demonstrates a bias toward exceptional customer service; experience providing customer service preferred.
