As the Director of Operational Excellence in the UW Strategy group, you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Governance and oversight of all technology, operational improvement and training programs/projects related to NI Product & UW. You will establish, continuously monitor and ensure the effectiveness of an integrated and cohesive plan that clearly and quantitatively drives value to the ~$4B NI UW Field organization. This includes ensuring appropriate use of Agile development methodology to maximize customer satisfaction and speed up overall progress of learning initiatives, technology deployment and process transformation. This role also participates in strategic planning by working closely with NI Exec Leadership Team, key field partners, and peers to develop an OpEx roadmap that delivers to pre-established targets across all dimensions of performance. Ensure that long range operating and transformation plans are established and near term priorities, goals and objectives are clearly defined for the NI UW Strategy and Excellence Teams.
  • Provide change management support to NI UW teams. We are delivering a tremendous amount of technological and process capabilities to our frontline UW teams. You will lead a team that will adopt a focused approach to inspiring change and deploying new capabilities across the country. You will ensure a clear and consistent communication strategy that drives understanding and execution of all NI UW Strategy and Excellence activities throughout NI and drives employee engagement and empowerment towards achieving business objectives is established.
  • You will act as a Sr. Product Owner for NI UW’s Learning and Development function. Responsible for building, grooming and executing on the training backlog, bringing an Agile mindset to how learning processes are led. You will build your own training team and drive real learning and development throughout the complex risk underwriting function.
  • You will lead the talented Standards and Quality team. This team is responsible for Internal Audit coordination for continuous improvement, attestation testing to ensure key risks are controlled, state compliance monitoring, and LOA and Business Continuity Plan administration.

To effectively perform your job, you will also need to:

  • Provide leadership and direction to staff through application of expertise in Operations, Organizational Performance and Continuous Improvement. Select, develop, and motivate qualified staff to effectively carry out department functions and provide for the continuity of managerial and specialized skills. Coach and mentor teams in all aspect of their job performance and career development including training, feedback, rewards and disciplinary action. Develop work plans, assign tasks, and oversee teams.
  • Remain well-informed of external standard methodologies with regards to cultural transformation of large organizations and continuous improvement.

Qualifications:
  • Displays sound discernment and integrated thinking.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, communication and presentation skills.
  • The ability to influencing and build strong consensus among multiple levels and functions within the organization.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. MBA preferred. Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in coordinating a large technology program, strategic operational improvement, change management or equivalent experience.
  • 1-3 years working in a highly effective management role.
  • Complex commercial insurance underwriting experience will be a plus.
