SIU Director is responsible for managing and providing guidance to Assurant’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU). Director is responsible for leading, mentoring, and managing performance and development of staff. Director and staff are responsible for developing fraud detection technics, facilitating fraud prevention through training and identifying opportunities for improving claims fraud prevention procedures. Director is responsible for ensuring all necessary regulatory and reporting requirements are followed, including state specific fraud plans and coordination of anti-fraud training.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for key metrics (referral and penetration rates)
  • Supports technological initiatives for the enhancement and efficiency of the department, including artificial intelligence and machine learning.
  • Responsible for development and execution of department strategies in support of claim initiatives and programs. Participates in the development and communication of internal policies, procedures and systems.
  • Researches industry trends and best practices; applies to achieve maximize results.
  • Establishes staffing strategy and plan based on forecasting needs from investigation trends. Identifies, recruits, interviews, hires, orientates to maximize office efficiency and performance. Establishes and evaluates standards for effective job performance. Develops quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensures investigators establish and maintain effective relationships with local/state/federal law enforcement personnel, NICB and local fraud agencies. Partners with NICB and other Industry Groups to provide education, resources and support to law enforcement and prosecutors.
  • Developing and fostering relationships with internal and external clients.
  • Builds relationship with claim managers, directors, and other business partners to ensure service priorities are identified and addressed.
  • Manages budget, provides regular analysis and metrics of the department to the senior leaders of each Business Unit.

Required skills/experience:

  • Knowledge of claims, personal and commercial product lines.
  • Advanced fraud investigative skills and techniques.
  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or five (5) years of law enforcement experience or SIU experience required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years in a leadership role.
  • Expert analytical skills with the ability to define and resolve problems.
  • Workforce management including hiring, training and development of staff.
  • Computer skills, including solid proficiency in Database navigation and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal and networking skills. Including a proven ability to communicate effectively with technical experts from multiple diverse fields (Legal, Fiduciary, Financial, Regulatory, IT, Database, Sales, etc.)
  • Must be able to travel.
