Position Overview:

This position conducts thorough investigations, evaluations and negotiations of property claims including litigation and coverage issues.

Essential Functions:

  • Investigates, researches and analyzes property claims including but not limited to: Real and Personal Property; Time Element and Business Interruption (including Contingent Business Interruption); Boiler and Machinery; Inland Marine (including Warehouse and Cargo Transportation Claims); Fidelity; and Crime/Burglary.
  • Evaluates and recommends reserve and settlement values on assigned cases. Manages, controls and negotiates timely and equitable claim payments and settlements in accordance with jurisdictional and fair claim practices and company policies and procedures;
  • Conducts property coverage analysis and evaluation and prepares coverage denial and reservation of rights letters;
  • Maintains regular reporting of case status, developments and direction to Home Office staff and other appropriate parties as necessary. Ensures appropriate hard copy file reports and system documentation as required by company claim manuals and procedures.
  • Manages and controls all outside investigators and experts to ensure timely, accurate and quality work is performed.
  • Responsible for timely communication with MSMM internal staff (including MSIJ Representatives), policy holders and brokers.
  • Responsible for coordinating meetings with underwriting staff to address coverage intent and application that will ensure all coverage issues are promptly identified.
  • Participates in Account Management process to ensure the successful retention of existing business and solicitation of new business.
  • Performs special projects and assignments as required.

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. required. Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) preferred.
  • 8+ years prior experience handling high exposure property claims
