How This Role Contributes to Brighthouse Financial:

The individual will be an integral member of the Annuity Valuation team and will focus on the GAAP valuation for Variable Annuities and Indexed Annuities products. This position will work closely with the team on monthly and quarterly valuation and will have a strong focus on analyzing, understanding, and explaining key drivers in results. The position will also collaborate with various teams in the company (ALM, Reporting, Controllers, Financial Projections, Experience Study, Pricing) to support the company’s key initiatives. This position offers a great opportunity to grow and progress as an Actuary while expanding knowledge of individual annuities and their valuation in a dynamic team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform monthly and quarterly GAAP financial reporting for variable annuities and indexed annuities (FAS 133, FAS 157, and SOP03-1)
• Conduct analyses and testing for assumption updates, identifying impacts of potential assumption changes
• Support GAAP valuation system conversion, by assisting on requirement gathering, user testing, and report development
• Support Statutory reserve and capital reporting needs and requests on an ad-hoc basis
• Collaborate with corporate and annuities business partners and support on key strategic initiatives (e.g., new product development, accounting regulation changes)

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Finance, Computer Science, or other related fields
• Passed one or more actuarial exams
• Working knowledge with Excel, VBA, Access, Python, C++, and SQL database preferred
• Exposure to actuarial modeling software such as FIS Prophet, GGY-Axis, or Aon PathWise preferred
• Familiarities with variable and indexed annuity products and GAAP valuation is a plus
• Able to work independently and as a team member
• Strong problem-solving skills, positive attitude, and an eagerness to learn
