Job Summary
Manages actuarial research required to identify and solve actuarial problems to achieve company objectives for profitability and growth. Using broad based actuarial, business and computer technology skills, oversees support staff and the production of analytical and statistical information to be used in actuarial computations. Manages the documentation for pricing, product development, forecasting, reserve testing, regulatory filings, and other actuarial research. Ensures that actuarial systems and databases conform to and utilize actuarial setting methodologies and produce accurate, efficient and consistent data. Responsible for the integration of actuarial decisions with business strategies. Responsible for complex projects requiring advanced statistical analyses, actuarial research, mathematical calculations and technical skills. May direct projects that have significant financial impact and may present to senior level management. This position works under limited supervision.

Marketing Description
State and Bureau Regulatory Affairs is looking for someone with 8+ years of actuarial or other analytical experience. This role involves working across many lines of business to support the filed rating plans. The role offers exposure to many enterprise disciplines and has involvement with many different groups across Travelers. It affords the opportunity to establish relationships with the field, pricing managers, lead business unit actuaries, enterprise product, systems personnel and compliance areas.

This position will lead a team and execute on Commercial Auto, General Liability and Property rate filing initiatives. This includes using broad-based actuarial, business and computer technology skills to oversee support staff in the production of rate indications and adequacy reviews. This positions coordinates and implements decisions between actuarial units and the business units. This includes developing strategies for securing approvals with state insurance departments, working with IT implementing rates in the various systems and overseeing process to ensure rate implementation accuracy. Role includes responsibility for oversight of routine projects as well a leading more complex research and rate plan management initiatives. Successful candidates will possess effective communication and problem-solving skills, and experience in roles requiring attention to detail.



Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
Oversee developing and implement rates, rating plans, and pricing strategies across all lines of business to achieve the company objectives for profitability and growth.
Ensure execution of maintenance of rate plans, manuals and pages.
Monitor marketplace, industry trends, and professional research to maintain knowledge of current activities related to products, regulations, and market conditions.
Review state filing packages and DOI responses to ensure accuracy and timely approval.
Recommend and initiate improved efficiencies and automation.


Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors Degree or equivalent education required. 3 years analytics experience required. Thorough knowledge of quantitative analysis required.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
College degree in actuarial science, mathematics, economics, finance, statistics or equivalent preferred.
8+ years of insurance experience preferred.
Demonstrated ability in actuarial and quantitative analysis and statistical concepts.
Excellent project management skills.
Strong understanding of regulatory environment.
Supervisory experience preferred.
Effective communication and training skills.

Thorough understanding of accounting principles and strong understanding of financial reporting.
Strong knowledge of insurance products and operations.
Strong understanding of the interrelationships and characteristics of the various distribution channels.
Strong understanding of insurance related models (ROE, cat modeling, etc.).
Excellent understanding of computers, programming, Excel spreadsheets, Word and database software.

Preferred Qualifications
8+ years actuarial or analytics experience.
Demonstrated: problem solving, written and verbal communication, project management, and organizational skills.
Strong skills with MS Office/Excel/Access, and VBA.
Commercial Lines pricing.
Commercial Auto pricing and ISO-rated products, a plus.

Physical Requirements
Operates standard office equipment. Sitting (can stand at will). Use of Keyboards, Sporadic 10-Key.
