Job Summary
Travelers Business Insurance Technology has an exciting opportunity for a technology professional to join our team. You will be joining a dedicated team responsible for enhancing and developing new capabilities across multiple application solutions that support financial and actuarial reporting as part of the Analytics value stream. Specific functions supported are; loss reserving, external Workers' Compensation & DMV reporting, and statutory reporting. These strategic capabilities depend on a set of applications in a high-performance, scalable, high-availability setting to meet current and future Business Insurance demand.


Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Builds effective relationships with stakeholders - both technical and business. Utilizes business knowledge to explain technical activities in business terms
  • Develop in an Agile/Scrum environment using development skills such as Paired Programming and Test-Driven Development
  • Design and develop new applications/functionality that addresses the current business needs with an eye on optimization for future enhancement
  • Embrace and seek out opportunities to refine and refactor existing code and processes. Potential to eliminate technical debit by modernizing mainframe-based processing functions.
  • Ensures work complies with department's standards, processes, and protocols. Applies knowledge of current industry trends and techniques with a focus on Lean software delivery


Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent required. 3 years of programming/development experience required.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred. 5 years of programming/development experience preferred.

Planning (Project Management): Able to manage time and competing priorities and provide management with accurate and timely status information. Able to accurately evaluate and estimate tasks. Financial Awareness: Able to understand how the project schedule relates to budget.

Environmental/Work Schedules/Other
Requires weekend work hours. Requires overnight work hours. Requires holiday work hours (Federal and religious). Requires extended periods (1 or more weeks) of travel as needed. Requires travel up to 5% of time.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Three (+) years relevant hands-on software distributed development experience
  • Working experience with version control (Git, SVN)
  • Application development languages such as Java, Java EE, Node, and Python
  • User Interface technologies such as HTML5, ECMAScript, CSS3 and frameworks such as Angular, Vue, and React
  • Application and Service Integration Patterns such as Microservices, SOAP and RESTful endpoints, Messaging busses (JMS/AMQP/Kafka)
  • SQL-based database platforms such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, DB/2. Familiarity with NoSQL platforms such as MongoDB, Redis, Neo4j is helpful.
  • Parsing, manipulating, and formatting data formats such as XML, JSON, Flat file, CSV, XLSX, YAML in memory or processing constrained environments.
  • Containerization platforms such as WebSphere Liberty Profile, Cloud Foundry, Kubernetes

Operates standard office equipment. Requires extended periods of computer use. Requires extended periods of sitting.

Licensing or Certificates
Depends on the specific role but some examples may include: ITIL Remedy Java certification Microsoft certification.net Kanban/Agile/SAFe
