How This Role Contributes to Brighthouse Financial:

The Associate Chief Underwriter role in the Mortality Insights, Methodologies and Controls area will assist in the development of underwriting/claims processes and procedures. The individual will participate in the mentoring and training of underwriters, work with vendors related to underwriting/claims requirements and processes to maintain the agreed to service levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exercises sound underwriting business judgment
  • Co-signs cases referred by other underwriters
  • Review claims (Life and LTC)
  • Assist in setting underwriting philosophy, guidelines, procedures and requirement for mortality risk management
  • Establish working relationships and rapport across core functions, key vendors and support areas including product, marketing, legal and compliance to enable department priorities.

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • At least 10 years of underwriting experience
  • Contestable claims review
  • Long term care underwriting experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience
  • Holds FALU, FLMI and/or CLU industry designations
  • Strong written and verbal communication and influencing skills
