Our goal in the Pricing Sophistication team within GRM Product Design & Modeling is to be an industry leader in the creation and deployment of machine learning models for pricing personal and commercial insurance products in markets across the globe, and we are seeking a manager with the passion and vision to lead a skilled team of data scientists in this groundbreaking effort.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of working effectively with highly talented professionals to develop creative solutions to complex problems, be comfortable with data handling, modeling and coding, and have the business understanding and strategic judgment necessary to direct research and develop findings into practical business solutions. Solid communication and management skills are critical to the role, and the individual we hire will need to work efficiently across functions as we work to test and implement new ideas. This is a highly visible position in an area with great potential, where you will have the opportunity to have significant influence on how we will price and design the flagship products of one of the largest and most sophisticated insurance carriers.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and execute on opportunities to develop Machine Learning pricing and underwriting models in the US and abroad

  • Create and manage tools to make ML techniques accessible across core modeling functions

  • Lead and develop a team of 3-5 high-performing data scientists

  • Establish project plans, ensure quality deliverables within agreed upon timeframes, communicate results and make recommendations to address issues

  • Provide strategic input and thought partnership on complex projects and business issues.

  • Collaborate with analytical peers and counterparts across LMG to stay abreast of business trends and analytical best practices

Qualifications:

  • Proven math and analytical skills, as normally acquired through an advanced degree (in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science or other relevant field of study) and 5-7 years of relevant experience or may be acquired through a bachelor’s degree (scientific field of study) with 10 years of relevant experience. Insurance or financial services industry experience preferred.

  • Strong background in Statistical Learning. Must be familiar with the use of statistical modeling software (SAS, R, Python, Emblem, etc.) with the ability to build models of moderate complexity.

  • Programming and data manipulation skills essential, with the proven ability to manage projects with significant code base in a version controlled disciplined manner.

  • Ability to deliver high quality work through others, while maintaining a productive and motivated team and supporting a challenging and rewarding learning environment

  • Ability to exercise discretion and apply independent judgment and well-developed critical thinking skills in management of assignments and projects.

  • Aptitude for effective, innovative problem solving within and across functional groups

  • Demonstrated ability to exchange ideas and convey complex information clearly and concisely to technical and business leaders, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to establish and build effective relationships within and outside the organization.
